Spark Plug Boot Replacement

I wasn't sure where exactly to place this so I placed it here.

I'll start with a bit of a back story. I picked up an 40 year old bike that I managed to get running last year and then I purchased a new combined R/R unit so I was getting my bike rewired to work with this and got the bike started and it ran fine. Afer I killed the bike it simply would not start again and even trying starter fluid it would not go.

So knowing the general realm of why things won't start I checked power to the coil and it was good so then I checked to see if I had spark and strangely I didn't. After a bit of testing I also discovered that the spark wasn't even blue but more orange so I decided to start looking further.

Reading through my manual and a few online posts they say that plug boots are designed to act as a resistor for the ignition system and that spark plug boots are expected to have a resistance of 5ohm and a rating of 0 or higher than 5 means the boot is gone. So I pulled both boots off and tested them with my multimeter and you can see the results below.

Remember we are dealing with 40 year old electronics and while for the most part you can probably get away running them for more I'm the type of person if one part fails I'll replace everything. So new coil, plugs and plug boots later I will be installing in a few days.

Old Boot #1 - You can see how dirty and dark the terminals are inside

New Boot #1 - Look how clean and bright the terminal is

Old Boot #1 Ohm Reading - Here you can see I'm getting 0 for ohms which is bad

New Boot #1 Ohm Reading - 4.77 which is not a perfect but better than 0!

Old Boot #1 - Again you can see how dirty and dark the terminals are inside
