Speedometer cable snapping

The PO told me he had a problem with the speedometer where it would twist the cable up. I shrugged it off since he wasn't very reliable and put a new one on today. Sure enough, it didn't work and when I took it off I noticed that the end that goes into the drive had twisted and snapped off.

What could be causing this? I want to figure this out and not just try again since these cables aren't free

if your cables are routed with alot of bends and cannot easily turn, that might do it.
also, are you sure its the right cable?

I got it oem from babbitts so I assume its correct. The cable routing isn't the problem...
