I think we talked a little bit about my sailboat project at Deal's Gap this summer. I just picked up a trailer for it last week out of a scrap yard a friend of my dad owns. Still alot of work to do. Maybe I'll be ready to sail next summer.
Troy that is very cool man! I myself love to see a parent and their child spending time together now days kinda a thing of the past and it shouldn't be.
By the way and you will get the humor in this. Me and Kiley got the pellet stove installed yesterday. The wife loves it!
You'll have to excuse my ignorance but I had to ask Miles, hehe. The boat is a 1972 Day Sailor by American Fiberglass. I think its 14 or 15' long. Miles worked most of the summer to buy it. He sailed it in a Regatta about a month ago.
Darn thing has way too much sail for such a little boat, IMO. I think the mast is over 20'. Anyhow, the center board did some pretty good damage to the hull when the po forgot put it up when he loaded the boat on the trailer. Miles bought it damaged and we fixed it. Other than that the boat is in fantastic shape. The sails are even original
Anyhow, not sure if this link will work but this was taken during the Regatta. His boat is bottom left: http://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?fbid=10150282647667411&set=t.1258540111&type=3&theater

Thanks man. Yeah it was one of those magical days. We had the lake to ourselves. Usually the lake is full. Wimps...Hahaha.
Actually I only went because I knew how bad he wanted to go, but I'm so glad I did.
He has gotten pretty darn good with the boat and knows where the edge is. Infact I missed capturing the better footage because I was busy holding on for dear life, hehe. Once the boat Heels over and plains out its amazing and scary at the same time, at least for me . The magical thing for me is when it comes to sailing I'm at his mercy. He pretty much taught himself to sail and I'm clueless. He is in charge and calls the shots. Sort of role reversal. Being out there together alone....Priceless...Awesome day indeed!
I love bikes but I'm wet behind the ears when it comes to sailing. What I've learned about sailing though there is something magical about it. I'm excited to learn more

First, Welcome to the site brother. I've not had the chance to officially welcome you.
And I couldn't agree more. My children have always come first and I love spending time with them.
Hot damn on the stove. congrats! Awesome that she finally 'warmed' up to the idea, hehe. Make sure to put a fresh air intake on it for your situation. happy for you bud!
Hey Troy, very cool. I have followed a little on the boat from Miles FB page. I have sailed a few times and it is an amazing feeling. I am pretty much clueless but the few times I sailed it was with a clinically blind person. A freind of mine's dad had sailed all his life in the river near where I grew up and he went blind in his 40's. When my freind moved out Jill and I used to go over and take him sailing cause he could no longer sail alone. He couldn't see but could tell us exactly what to do to control the boat and knew where we were etc. in the river. Was really amazing.

Mike you never cease to amaze me! A wonderful story brother. Words can't even describe how it makes me feel. Makes my heart ache in the most beautiful way. Its sharing our lifes experiences that make DTT what it is. The bikes drew us here but turns out they are just the by product of who we are.

Too cool man! I am Missing my boy right now... I cant wait to see him soon!
Louie, You're pullin at the heart strings brother. My oldest son is 850 miles away. It hurts to have that separation. Can't imagine if he were younger. I know I don't have to tell ya but make every second count and carry it with you. Sometimes its those moments that keep the wind under my wings and keeps me from crashin.
My dad has been a sailor longer than I can remember. He is 83 now and still takes his 30' Catalina out solo. I get out with him at least once a year. It is a 2.5 hour ride, a few hours sailing and a ride home.
Love sailing! Me and my girlfriend were taught by her dad on a 26' day sailer many years ago. It sank while he was sailing it on Ky Lake. Hit a submerged grain silo! He replaced it with a 40' boat. Incredible. Man, those were some good memories. Thanks for sharing.
Sailing is my life! Been at it almost 10 years now!.
I race high performance skiffs, came 9th at the RS500 Worlds in Weymouth this year. I'm moving onto faster boats and am thinking about sailing in 29ers with a friend of mine. I also race on J80s and a 31 year old quarter toner.
Great video Troy! It's amazing how bike guys connect with sailing. Maybe its the simplicity and beauty of design and execution of the two disciplines. I love sailing also and am completely incompetent! Lanny and I go out on little tiny lasers or mini cats and consistently dump em. What a rush getting them to plane and feel the wind bite even if for just a few seconds.
