Spokes... On a shaft drive 82 Gs650?

Bonehead

I am wrong... A lot. Don't worry, I know
Since I started as a shop apprentice where they C&C custom hubs and wheels, I have been wondering if it is possible to make a one off set of spoked wheels for my 1982 Suzuki Gs650G. I have searched around, and people have used things like Virago wheels. After looking at it though, I am pretty sure the hub is far too large to fit into the final drive shaft. So basically, what would it entail? Would I have to custom machine a hub to accept the final drive shaft? In theory it sounds easy, but it will be one hell of a task. On the other hand, it will definitely be a one of a kind feature when I inevitably sell it.

Also, would it look good with the spokes? I can't really even imagine it until I mock it up I guess. I have included a picture of my bike for your reference.

some bmw adventure bikes use spoked wheels on a shaft drive...might be a good idea to check how they do it and see if you can replicate that.

Machining up a hub for this would cost you mega $$$ which IMO you would not recoup come sale time - no matter what you put on this bike it's still a shaft drive GS650.

You would be best off looking for an existing hub / wheel to put on. No idea what sort would fit though.

True. I'd need to ask my boss if he'd even be willing to try it out. If not, oh well just powder the rims and call it a day.

Check the hubs on Intruders... specifically 1400 and 1500... the smaller ones were drum rear.

Hubs are too big, and honestly it looks ugly... Barely any spokes show from that huge pizza in the middle. I think if I do go the spokes route, it will be a custom made hub. However, I think it won't be cost effective to custom machine a hub so it will be far out of my budget. I will still research this though. Ask my boss, take some measurements, and if I get far enough make a mock up out of wood.

It will only be a good look and cool idea if executed correctly.

Intruders use 15"wheels, fit an 18"and it will look totally different
Another thing you could try, find a damaged wheel (rim not hub) cut the center out and weld on spoke flanges
I know it's been done with CX500's
