Squishy Front Brakes

Been Around the Block
Ive got a 69' cl350 with a very weak front brake. Ive traded out the pads(cleaned inside drum with appropriate cleaner), and slapped on a fresh cable but she's still very slow to a stop. I've got original levers and assembly on it currently. Any Ideas ? Cheers

Was having similar issue, I've done all that you've mentioned...in addition I also got a master cylinder repair kit.

try adjusting both shoes to contact drum at the same time, beyond that, it could be that the drum is worn enough that the arc on the new shoes no longer matches the arc of the drum, I think there's a way to have the shoes profiled but I don't know much about drum brakes

Now you tell me how you clean the drum and repair the master cilinder on the same bike?

Front disk rear drum.

But that's not what he meant I just wanted to call you out.

Just as an update, the problem happened to be the brake stay. I switched out forks from the stock tapered 69' forks to 72's. When i did this, the brake stay was not in line, and consequently torqued on the brake pads, causing them to bind, and seat improperly with the drum. I discovered this when I tightened up the front end without the brake stay, the wheel would spin freely. Once the brake stay was in place, the wheel would bind up. A couple washers were used to straighten out the brake stay and get it in perfect alignment when tightened down. Presto. Hope this helps someone in the future.
