SR250 pod filters

Hello all, I'm just bought my first motorcycle from a friend, an 81' SR250 in pretty good shape running and everything, I've been cleaning the carb and polishing a few things, and waiting for some warm weather.... I've been thinking about putting pod filters on the bike in the hope that it would perform better.

The best thing I found to explain how to do this is this website :
http://www.yurisite.com/photos/motik/project/sr250air.html

because it lays out basically how to do it and displays where to get the filters, I pretty much understand all of this but I was wondering if anyone knew if the jets in the carb will have to be adjusted or replaced with different ones, I didn't know whether this would be basically plug-n-go or some carb adjustment would be needed

Thanks!

It depends. K&N says that you don't have to change the jets when you use their filters, but most people say you do. Especially if you're going to run aftermarket exhaust. People also say that when you remove the stock air box the bike never really runs right, so its really up to you. You might get more power and you might have to change the jets. Z1 enterprises has cheap emgo pod filters just so you know. I would say go for it, but if you're looking for just a "bolt on" power increase maybe you should stay away.

It's not that I was looking for bolt on power, I was more wondering what I would need to change in order to make it work and work well, I like the look and the openness it creates through the bike.

I'm just extremely inexperienced and needed some tips on how to make it work correctly

In almost every case you'll need to change the jets to bigger ones. Buy a few in increasing size till it runs right.
Luckily that carb is very common. You can get the jets pretty cheap from MikesXS.
Don't let the fact that Mikes specifically supplies the xs650 crowd. The carb parts are the same. I've got two of those bikes in the stable right now. Solid little runners.
