Hey all, don't post much but read a BUNCH. I always hate when someone says I threw this "part" on the bike and it just worked. But didn't post the settings.

Wanted to post up settings for an SR250 that I just tested.

1980 Yamaha SR 250 Carb Model: Mikuni VM32 then changed these items :: Main Jet:190 Pilot Jet:22.5 Needle JetJ:p5 Needle:6DH3 AJ:0.9 Slide:2.5

Stock plugs. 900 feet above sea level.

I used this throttle cable but had to modify the end going into the throttle tube. I suggest calling motion pro for cable.

I found the carb setup on a dutch site awhile back because my stock carb the arms that hold the floats one was cracked and dangling. Well the results of the VM32...
rocking.

It is really close. And should be able to dial in easier when my new non-leaking fuel shutoff comes in. Starts and idles good. throttle response is very good. It is hanging a bit when you close the throttle quickly though so still need to tweak some. But was able to ride it around the neighborhood easily.
Word of caution though. I had to adjust the floats as they were not set at 22-24mm, and all the parts in the carb listed above had to be changed from stock. So that $90 carb will cost a bit more to setup. The carb does fit in the intake boot on the engine side you just have to cap off the vacuum line that feeds the fuel shutoff unless you keep the stock one. It is not long enough to reach the stock airbox though.

This fuel shutoff is what I just ordered. Yamaha 5LP245000100 Fuel Cock Assembly

I hope this helps.

Update on the carb setup.
195 main and needle clip one slot lower than middle. 25 pilot. and air screw just past 1.5 turns out. bp8es spark plug (1 colder than stock)
Running good now.

Hi, first of all many many thanks for posting this info.

I followed your lead and ordered the carb, breather and air filter that you linked. I have cleaned carbs on dirt bikes I've had but never dealt with rejetting a carb from scratch, so this info is very much appreciated.

The only issue I am anticipating is that my bike has <700 miles on it and was stored in the desert so all my chrome and everything is basically perfect. It would hurt me too much to cut up this exhaust to weld on a different muffler, so for the time being I'll be running the stock exhaust.

My question is whether I will need to adjust any of the jets vis-a-vie your recommendations/findings or do you think I will be alright just going with what you've determined? The google says my city is 860ft AMSL, so the only difference in setups would be the exhaust.

Thanks in advance for anyone who helps, I am off to figure out how to put the float thingies back in there. Never seen one where its not attached to the metal lever. Anyways.

Thanks again!

Bryan
