Stainless?

Coast to Coast
I was wondering if the stock exhaust pipes and gas tanks on older Hondas are stainless steel? Sorry if this is a stupid question, was just wondering.

The only stainless steel parts on old Hondas I've seen are the speedometer and tach base plates.

Good tip with the magnet. I didn't know that. I bought a MAC (2 into 1) exhaust pipe and had to use some factory pipes to create my own. When I wire wheeld them, it looked really clean like stainless. It welded beautifully and did not burn through. So I was thinking maybe it was stainless. Since I've never welded stainless before, I didn't know if these were charteristics of stainless. So, I was just curious. Thanks :)

Stainless must be tig welded. You would know if you tried to weld it.

You must have just had the settings spot on and a nice beed going. :)

I've welded stainless with my flux core welder. You can weld it OK, but the weld will rust because it's not stainless.

I gas welded some .065" 304 tube once, huzzah for bronze rod.
Silver solder works good too but obviously not for an exhaust....

Hell, I need to stop listening to the people I've been listening to. All I've ever been told is it had to be tig welded. That's sweet, I'll definately keep that in mind once I get a new one!

The BEST and neatest way is to TIG it.
But it can be welded many other ways. :)

Cheers.
