Starter Magnetic Switch

Trying to get my bike going and the wiring is causing some grief. I have a '77 CB550f.

I have discovered that I am getting power to one side of the magnetic switch but it is not flowing through to the starter. Is there a way to test the Magnetic Switch and if it is faulty, where can I get new one or what do I replace it with?

The magnetic switch (aka solenoid) is pretty simple to test.

First test is the bench test. Just hook it up to 12V on one of the thin wires and then ground the other thin wire. I use a spare battery with one wire to the positive terminal and one wire to the negative terminal.

You should hear a click if everything is working.

If you do hear the click, it's time for the second test. With everything still hooked up, use a multimeter to read resistance between both of the threaded studs. You should get a very low number. Less than one Ohm and hopefully close to zero.

Tested the switch and it appears to be okay. I traced the wire from my starter button through to the fuse box but it appears to come back through a yellow/black wire which goes no where. Power is found all the way. Can anyone help me get an accurate wiring diagram as the ones I have looked at have clutch switch, which I am sure mine doesn't have. Being in Australia, I do not believe we have running lights. The engine serial number is CB550E-1155058. Any help would be good. Oh, I did get the indicators and lights going. At least I could track them down. Thanks.

Black/yellow wire is usually headlight related, on most models. Sounds like things just may be plugged in incorrectly.

This is a fairly simple circuit, in case you need to recreate it.

Black power wire to one of the thin solenoid wires, red/yellow wire from the other thin solenoid wire up to the starter button, and then ground the green/red wire coming from the starter button.
