Starter not catching CL360

Upon hitting the starter button, the starter turns just fine but doesn't seem to be catching. every once in a while it'll catch and turn the motor over but only for a couple revolutions then it starts to spin freely and not turn the motor over again. If I bump the starter button a bunch of times I can get it to turn the motor over here and there but no enough to get it started.

What do I need to take a look at first?

Thanks!

Inside the left engine cover... behind the flywheel.... your starter clutch isn't grabbing. It may need replaced but you can try to clean it first... it might be gunked up and not allowing all three rollers to move feely.

If you keep trying you may burn up your starter.

You should be able to use a 350 rear axle as a puller. Some people say a 3 jaw puller will mess up the flywheel but the 3 jaw worked for me just fine on my 500. You can get a free loaner from Autozone.

Get a flywheel puller its a 16x1.5 right hand. Should be $12. Clean out your starter clutch, once your in there youll find it to be pretty simple. If yours still doesnt work send me a PM you can have mine for the price of shipping.
