My name is Derek from NJ (Philly/Camden area). I am totally new to motorcycles even though my dad has always been into bikes. Never caught the bug until recently. I just picked up my second bike and project tonight.
I have been working on a 1976 Yamaha XS500 for a few months now. Long term cafe project.
Tonight I picked up a 1975 Yamaha RD350b. The RD is one owner, original paperwork, tool kit, etc. all electrical works also. Plan is to get it running and road worthy and ride as is.
There are several good RD builds going on here you should read. First things first though. Replace all of the seals in that motor asap. Check pistons for the early signs of deterioration from running lean. Make sure your oil pump is working. Replace your oil lines. That exhaust looks to be shot so look into replacements, be it aftermarket or stock. If you can get some good new coils, do it. The RD ones are kinda crap.
Hmmm... I think that's enough gloom and doom for the moment.
Looking forward to the build threads. Lots of really smart two stroke folks here to help.
The RD exhaust is surface rust. I can't get spark from the coils, so I believe you about them being crap. it needs a darn good going over. The price was right and it was all there with a title!
