Now the 9 screws on the side of my cb200 that hold the engine guts in, and chain gaurd are stuck, one of which is stripped (no idea what to do with that one) I want to take the covers off to polish but they're stuck and I'm afraid if I wrench on them too hard they'll strip like the other one. Guidance? I mean its not critical that these parts are removed because the bike works great, I just want to replace them and clean stuff up.
Guess it's a CB200 thing, heh heh. The PO of my bike rounded off a bunch of the case screws on mine, too. Not sure if he ever got to the innards of the bike, though. I was just gonna dremel a slot in 'em and give it a go with a meaty flat-headed screw driver. If that doesn't work, I'm SOL until I can scrape up a few bucks. It's no fun being a poor college student
Oh! and if/when you get 'em all out - think you could keep track of the # and size (6mm x ___ ) of all of the case screws & all that jazz? I just wanna head to the metric hardware store and (hopefully) get them all in one stop.
yeah I've already purchased all my screws on boltdepot.com, great resource for metric stuff but if your hardware store has them it would be easier. I'll keep track when I get them out, I just bought 10 of everything because they're like $0.20 a piece.
Are these phillips headed bolts? If so, drill the heads off, remove the cover and grab the stud with vise-grips.
Or get a flat drift / punch (the size of the bolt head) and give the head a couple of good square hits. This will jarr the threads of the bolt - and squash the head of the bolt back to shape. Then tap your screwdriver back into the head of the bolt and it should come out a lot easier.
You would be surprised how often its just the pressure on the head that is holding on. If you drill the head off, pull the sidecover off, sometimes the threads from the bolt just come out by hand.
Tap your screw driver with a hammer it should brake them loose no need for dremels and vice grips.
check out hbhondamotorcycles look for the parts finder button click on honda motorcycles pick your year make etc a parts fiche will show up you can get all the nuts and bolts dimensions that way boys!!
