So I finally got my tank painted and new signals on. It was a beautiful night out so i figured it was the perfect chance to take it out for a rip around town...boy was I wrong.... I got about a half mile down the road when I realized one of my fuel lines had popped off and was just flapping in the wind spraying gas all over my newly painted side cover :-\. I pull over and reattach, drove a bit more, and off it comes again....seeing as i didn't have anything to fix it with, and i was very close to home I turned the petcock off and drove home with only the gas that was remaining in the carbs. Got home and fixed it up, then went to the gas station next door to my house to fill up. Drove about 3 miles into town, then that's when the fun began. I started getting poor acceleration and power with the bike, especially in low gears, and when i do accelerate the bike it almost has a bucking motion like its getting little bursts of power. It backfired really loud a couple times and its idling way too low, even dying on me at stop signs a couple times. Changed out the plugs with some ones i had lying around but didn't help the issue, will try new ones tomorrow. Would having that fuel line off be responsible for these issues? Could i have damaged something?......This is extremely frustrating as the bike was working great until tonight, besides running a little rich. Any thoughts would be much appreciated! Thanks.

Sounds like you may have a bunch of crap from your gas tank go into your carbs.

Blocked jets / float valves most likely.

You need to clean your carbs and flush your tank.....and maybe get new fuel lines while you're there.

And always do test rides uphill from home - makes the walk of shame back home a lot easier :)

I was thinking that as well, I just lined the tank with POR15 and cleaned the carbs within the last 3 months though. Im assuming my carbs will need to be re synced?

Never trust a liner that is not baked in. I have mine done when needed at real radiator and tank repair shops. They'll solder up any pinholes or seam leaks, acid dip the tank, then bake in an alcohol resistant lining. It only takes one place in the tank having scale to compromise the liner and plug up your idle jets or float needle seats.

Or you could have just gotten a load of garbage gas with some sediment in it. Happens all the time. Don't buy BP fuel, they seem to be the worst offender.
