Stupid question deserves a stupid answer.

So I haven't looked into the valves yet as my gaskets are on the way, however I was able to get a compression tester and I'm seeing 150PSI on the dot on both sides. A bit on the low side, really, but fingers crossed with a valve adjustment I see an extra 20 PSI out of the thing. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Welp, realized after pulling the stator cover that my oil is probably 50% gas. Thing literally lost 1/2 a quart or more just from taking the cover off and it was thin and stunk of fuel. I'm starting to wonder if buying a bike sight unseen was a good idea....

its ok bud. i bought my very first bike, the one i have now, for 3500(way too much for a 500t). the guy i bought it from said it needed a battery and gas and i believed him

i spent 14 months replacing the transmission, shifter forks, gaskets, stater, wiring, fixing a busted exhaust, cables were all bullux.

now its got a top end problem. My oil smelled like gas when i first got it as well because the bike sat for 30 years. no idea if the pecock was open or closed, but you should always change your oil first and formost. and keep that pecock closed when youre not riding.
