Suspension

Quick question, and sorry if it is in the wrong place, didnt see a suspension link so i figured "Wheels, Tires, and Brakes" was close enough hehehe.

So i just started tearing down a 79 CB750 LE and one of the planned changes was to buy new shocks for the rear and replace/rebuild the forks with new springs and oil. Im just assuming as a complete newb that this is a good idea seeing as they both probably have not been touched since the bike was new 33 years and 24,000 miles ago. As for feel, the front enough is a little sluggish to me, but the only comparison i have is my 07 SV650 (which stock front suspension is not known to be great as is).

Any insight or reccomendations would be greatly appreciated, and FWIW im looking at Dynoman's Progressive Suspension front and back.

EDIT: Im not a cheap wad, but im defininitely more about bang for buck and less about $1000 pieces of functional eye candy, and engine work will be coming first, just trying to sort a budget out in my head and prioritize =D

Talk to RaceTech http://www.racetech.com/ for the front end. They can set you up with the right springs and emulators. They can even set you up with the right oil. I would talk to Works http://www.worksperformance.com/html/home.html for the rear end. I had Works and RaceTech set me up and my bike handles almost as good as my SV650 that has a GSXR750 front end with Traxxion Dynamics internals and a Penski rear shock. It's a night and day difference over stock and worth every penny.

Definitely Racetech for the front end. Best setup you'll find for the money. For rears, Works are good but if you want something abit more budget friendly, progressive is a good bang for the buck.

Works also has some good deals sometimes on Ebay for their clearance items.

Awesome, thank you, ill be callin these guys up. Nice to see a fellow SVer, i spent quite a bit of time on SVrider a few years back!

The SV650 is still one of my favorite bikes. My cousin had the 650 and moved up to the 1000 and wishes he still had the 650 haha

Thats not the first time ive heard that! Seems the consensus for those that switch is the power is cool and all, but you miss the lightweight flickability of the little workhorse. Im selling mine to fund this project, sure ill be sad to see it go!

Not a problem. You can always sell the old bike when you tire of it and buy another SV. I love custom bikes, but it's hard to beat reliable comfortable competent motorcycles when the urge to ride come calling. :)

I don't know if I could sell my SV. The damn bike has been way too much fun.

BTW the Deftones are one of my favorite bands of all times. They kill it!

The Deftones just keep rockin on man, not to get too far off topic but holy shit, with every CD they evolve and still make some of the best rock to ever grace my ears. I was tellin Silky in my other thread that ive seen them now in three different countries, i lucked out and one of the guys i served with had a connection, got VIP tickets to a Rome concert, talked with Stephen Carpenter for awhile =D Got one of his guitar picks somewhere.......
