I'm not really sure what you'd call this - not really a bobber, not really a chopper. i tend not to fuss over labelling bikes.
Im Building this bike solely for myself, I want to hold onto it. ive never bought a bike and been fully happy with it, theres always something on a bike everybody would like to change or would have done differentley.
I've had bikes that use the gsxr oilcooled engine in the past - gsx600f gsxr750 and know they are very reliable, very tuneable, many spares around and i can work easily on them. they are good solid reliable powerful engines, so i set out to buy either a gsxr1100 or a gsf1200 engine. eventually finding a bandit1200 engine on ebay. untested, condition unknown so very little money.... well first things first - lets see what condition its in ... not too bad
the frame i thought hard about. originally i bought a 1st generation gsx-r 750 frame but later decided against it. i wanted to build a hardtail, ive not the tools or knowledge to put my own together so i looked around for frame builders. a small company had been making a hardtail frame designed for these engines and at a reasonable price, so again the buy it now button on ebay was pushed, and a few weeks later this arrived at my door
a few more sessions on ebay, i found a set of laced wheels, bates sprung seat, a set of forks an old alien tank and a vance and hines sidewinder drag race pipe.
it was close but not quite the vision i have in my head. the exhaust was going to be a lot of work to make it fit around the frame and still look tidy, so that was swapped with a friend for a nitrous oxide kit. and i decided if i had nos then why not go turbo too
now this brought about another problem - i wanted to build a blow through system with the turbo mounted infront of the engine, but this left the turbo housing very close to the front wheel so i decided id get the frame goosenecked to move it
later i again changed my mind - registration regulations means this bike more than likely will be given a q-plate which insurance companies dont like, add that to the nitrous - the turbo will push the premium to a point i will not be able to afford the insurance
so the turbo idea was ditched
i found a new tank that was more the shape of the bike i have in my head, the alien is too bulky at the front for me and the wassell sits much better so i swapped those round, stood back and wasnt happy with the front end. i wanted something more less ordinary, so that too went
and will be replaced by a set of custom built girders
