Ha! Thanks guys. Good news: got to take her for a little ride yesterday. It was about 55° out and had to fill the tank up. I really need to find that speedo sensor wire........driving me bonkers since I KNOW it's in the garage somewhere.
Other than not knowing how fast or how far I went, there were no issues. My idle was pretty damn high by the time I got to the station, but it's also the first time the motor got to warm up since the carbs were mounted. And before anybody asks - no, I haven't done any tuning yet. Still listening for any rattling bolts and the like to concentrate on the jetting. Didn't notice any flat spots or sputters though!
awesome I wish I could ride already. Just got 3" of snow again last night. Maybe I can nominate you for BOTM again and you could win this time. Bike has gone to that next level now.
Thanks guys! Once I get the front fender mounted up properly and take some pics I'll change my avatar. And Mike, you're too kind my friend. There are so many nice bikes around here that I feel the humble little GR just can't compete. I found this pic and somehow it reminds me of you buddy..........
Got to ride it into work the other night - that pic is in the morning. But all the signals are wired and mounted, and I got the speedo and tach working now too. I ordered a speedo drive signal for a Kawasaki but had to jury rig it to get it to work. The threaded sleeve on the Kaw sensor was a little too big for my Suzuki wheel- just wrapped the threads in electrical tape and tightened it up that way (with a small zip tie on the speedo cable guide so it can back out).
Found something strange out too. The Acewell's magnetic sensor works off the rpm's from the wheel, but the speedo gear sensor I'm using works differently. For example, the owners manual explains that when using the magnetic sensor, to just plug in the tires circumference. In my case it ended up being about 2002mm. But the gear sensor sends the same pulse per revolution, and the problem is the speedo gear ratio (the metric 2240:60 or whatever). I plugged in that 2002 into the speedo and it said I was going about 70mph in 2nd gear.........I've reduced the number to about 680 now and it's pretty close to accurate. I used a speedometer/GPS app on my phone and there were some variations between it and the Acewell. I'll end up using a proper GPS or even some mile markers on the side of the road somewhere and get it nailed down though.
Ha! With any luck, yes. I'm looking into a nice tank bag and I've already fit saddle bags to it. I tried out my rain gear that the Mrs bought for me, and even the cold weather gear that I saved "for emergencies" in the past.
Oh ya - the saddle bags don't have any kind of proper support. Just the fiberglass itself on the seat. But I won't be loading them up with spare batteries, hydraulic jacks, full cases of beer, etc, etc.........so I'm not terribly worried about any structural damage to the seat. I'm going to see if I can put more miles on than "Iron butt" Beatnic this year.
Thanks for the compliments fellas. Had some chores around the house today but finally got to take her out for a spin. It was a gorgeous day out: 60+degrees, sunny, no wind, etc. I was going to snap a couple pics but I got about 6 miles from home and it suddenly started popping & surging. Pulled over and saw this:
The seam in the airbox split wide open! Bastards..........So tonight I will be reinforcing all the edges.
