Also sounds like you figured out that is the wrong way to go. You want to add disks to lean it, removing discs not only increases your back pressure but enrichens the mixture... Easier said than done out on the road I know.
12 seems like a BUNCH, I doubt you will need that many. IIRC, Mine was restricted with 6, added 5 but then it was too "peaky" so I then then subtracted 2. Now it is running pretty good with a smoother powerband.
Each tune is different so yours will vary I am sure.
Re: Suzuki GR650- accidental GP syle exhaust........
You're absolutely correct Hoosier - I was just trying to go from one extreme to the other and didn't really think it thru......
I'm sure I won't use even close to all of them, but it will be nice to have the option. And besides, 4 of them did get chewed up a little so they could use replaced.
1980 GS850 "G" (the touring model). Before I hammered in the knee dents it had a 5.9 gallon capacity - compared to my current 3.9 gallons. I'll post much better pics and more details later tonight.
I've got the same tank, I think. Were the sides easy to hammer in? I tried it with another tank and had a bit of trouble keeping the dents even on both sides.
It was pretty easy - a little too much so. I tried making them deeper and deeper, but it started pulling in the steel towards the front. So they are longer than what I wanted.
Ok, here's a comparison of a GS450 E/S tank to the GS850G tank:
Yes, it really is THAT much larger.......Now, mind you the stock petcock is hitting the frame in these pics, so the 850 tank is MUCH higher than it will be with a Pingel petcock......about 3" higher. With a Pingel, it lowers the tank so that it is just about horizontal with the ground. But hopefully this sheds an idea of where I'm headed:
