Ya know, I really did think of you first. But this is the same guy that smashed the hell out of his thumb last spring and I cut his grass for free. He insisted on paying me back........but this is redonkorous.
Ha! Thanks Indie. The tire did end up coming in today but it was so late in the day that I wouldn't have had time to take it to the tire place. So I'll get it done after I work this week.
Ha! Thanks guys. Borzwazie: have you gotten yours running yet? Or are you still working on tapping those holes?
I actually have a GS450 master laying around.......needs rebuilt anyways. I was looking at the GSXR since the reservoir can be moved wherever it's needed. But I do appreciate th offer man!
I never like to be that guy that shows up in the shop five minutes before closing after the techs have already put their tools away and stuff. If only I could have my own full service shop at home.
I kinda agree with you Todd. But I also think that 5 minutes before quitting time isn't the same as quitting time.
On the other end of the spectrum however.......I worked in a fast food place during high school. On the nights I worked til close we would get people pulling up at 5 til and bitch because they demanded top notch service. Without going into details, I learned that you shouldn't piss off the person making your food when you can't see them make it.
As far as my local tire place goes, they hook me up with all the smaller details which is nice. They don't get mad when I don't buy my tires there, they trust the sizes I bring in are good for the wheel, dismount old tires from wheels for free, etc. So I can wait a couple days to get this one done.
Speaking of local tire place, I was up there this morning. Got the 110/90-18 Avon mounted up. Here's a comparison between the stock(ish) tire and wheel compared to the new:
And 2 shots of the wheel mounted to the bike:
I need to put new bearings in the rear wheel though. So it isn't mounted with the spacers, brake plate, etc. I will be ordering the bearings when I order the front wheel tomorrow.
Totally random pic I forgot I had on Photobucket.......Last week I was bored in the garage so I figured I wanted to get the chain cut to length and riveted together. To make sure everything was straight and lined up I put the knobby tire on the swinger. Just for your amusement:
No, you're right. It's considerably smaller. The 18" wheel has a stock 38 tooth sprocket while the 16" has a 45 tooth sprocket. The math on that 45 tooth works well. Between it and the stretched swinger going on that bike, a readily available 130 link chain will fit.
Thanks guys! Joe- I asked about what size mc to use on a dual caliper GS650 front end on the GSR and a guy suggested the GSXR unit. He showed a pic of his bike (gsxr MC and same calipers) so I figured I would try it out. Doesn't hurt that I scored a mis-labeled mc on ebay for 25 bucks either.
I was talking with my wife last night about her sister's wedding. Originally her and her fiance wanted everybody to ride their respective motorcycles from the wedding to the reception. Since I was paired up with their cousin (who doesn't like bikes) I had made plans to just drive my truck to the reception........but that's changed. Now my sister-in-law wants as many motorcycles involved again and this bike is going. The wedding is in 29 days (which means I have about 15 days to work on the bike because of my schedule) and this thing needs to be done. Bolted together, tuned, painted, everything. Here's my "to-do" list:
Get the tank and seat back from paint - seat needs padding too.
Order brake lines and set up front calipers
Get carbs from Kiley - install and tune
Rear sets from Swagger
Go over all the bolts, nuts, wiring and make sure everything is tight and safe. Not allowed to break down on the way to the wedding.......
