Suzuki GT250 Ignition problem

Hi All,

I've just had my 74 Gt250 engine rebuilt and I'm having a few ignition issues.

The left cylinder seems to be working fine but the right only fires intermittently if at all. I pulled out the right spark plug and fired it up and noticed that rather than being one clean spark it looked like 5 or 6 little ones all over the place. Any ideas what could be causing that?

If you pull the cover on the ignition, turn the crankshaft until the right side points are closed. With the right side plug out and setting on the head, you should be able to open the points with your finger and it'll spark every time. If it sparks more at the points, or if the contact patch of the points are black/burned, you need to replace the condenser. You can purchase a condenser from your local autoparts store, it should be something that came on an early vw bug or bus and it functions just fine. If you want to test the coil, you can switch the wires going to the points so it'll spark on the opposite cylinder. I'm guessing either the condenser is bad or the points are dirty.

Ended up removing the stator completely and it looks like the black wire and white wire that goes to the points are both fairly cactus. The plastic coating is brittle and cracked.

Guessing that could be causing the erratic firing.

Ordered some new points and condensers though just to be sure.

Thanks :)
