He bought the bike already "built" (basically lots of the stock parts pulled off, and then clubmans installed) for more than it was probably worth, then he painted it (I haven't seen the paint in person, I can't comment on it). Whoever had it before him did shorten the seat pan, and had a custom cover made. There is a really good upholstery place here, in Corona, who did my seat (see earlier in this thread).
The tank is sitting with rust remover (I forget which brand he used) right now. I know the "cafe racer" thing to do is remove this type of item, but I think a rack screams "BRIT BIKE" and I'm becoming more and more bent on making this Japanese bastard act like it's English... So we might slap one of these racks on there (random googled image)
My friends barn is full of goodies, including this old spring gold tank- I took the pic for inspiration on my Suzuki...
Also got a few detailed pics and measurements of the paint scheme on his 1970 Bonny, so I can replicate it as closely as possible...
then in a few days, as time permits, we'll give this stuff a go...
In the meantime, I just acquired the engine for my T140 build, and there seems to be a LOT to be done...
Detailed my bike today, because I have a possible buyer coming to look at it on saturday... It's hard, when you spend a few hours prettying up something, to help a buyer fall in love, but then you end up falling in love with it all over again, during that few hours... But I just had to stop and google Triumphs for a few minutes, and remind myself of the goal. It's a good thing, whether it sells or not, because if it doesn't, I have a list of fun things I will do to it immediately afterward (rear fender removal, finally put on that new tank, new grips, fork gaiters, little things, but fun, nonetheless)
Upside down badges, because society wants them to be right-side-up....
