Swapping CB450 frame

Hey, newbie with what I think is a fairly simple question.

I've got a 1982 CB450t Hawk. I would like to replace the stock airbox with some pod filters, remove the side panels, move the battery and basically open up the middle. My problem is that the frame on my bike is not the ideal shape to do this. The frame section under the tail is not the ideal tube frame that you would normally see. On either side there is a piece of flat tapered steel that would be exposed if I remove the side paneling and would look pretty shite if I left it there.

So I'm looking to swap the frame. I have a local shop that specializes in older bikes and the owner says that he has a few different frames from the cb's around that year. My question is what year frame of the cb's would I be able to use ?

Appreciate any help !

Dont quote me on this as there is a whole lot of folks here who know way more than I do, but I think unless you build a frame, your stuck with what ya have. Im not really familiar with the Hawk450s though, so once again... DONT TAKE THIS AS GOSPEL...

Can you throw a few pics up of your frame? There may be other options of ya can weld...

Youd probably have more luck and an easier time if you just cut the portions of your frame that you dont like. Do you have a picture of the peice that you dont like? If you post it up, someone will be able to tell you if you can cut it out no problem, or if you'll also have to weld in some additional support somewhere.

Also remember you will have to title whatever frame you swap, if you decide to go that route, so make sure you get ownership with it...
