Tab thickness for rear sets

Been Around the Block
Hi guys. I'd like to hear from the experienced builders on this forum. When welding on new tabs for rear sets, is 1/8" steel enough or should I go with 3/16"? I don't want to overdo it but I also don't want to be bending the tabs when I'm riding it. Is there a strong tab design you can share with me that would be stronger than flat steel or am I just making this more complicated than it needs to be?

If you can weld in a triangle you should.
1/8 is thin IMO I use 3/16.

1/8 is too wimpy 3/16 is strong enough only if designed correctly they need to be strong enough to stand on full weight on one side
best bet is to do some forming and or add gusseting/doubler laminate plates

Thanks guys. I kinda thought 1/8" would be too thin. Could someone on here post a close up photo or a drawing of an acceptable tab design?

1/4". 3/16 is just strong enough to hold you up without bending. Hit a hard part going around a corner, or, alien overlord forbid, go down and you'll be kicking yourself with your one good leg after your mounts completely bend or break off and your bike is stuck on top of you melting your skin away with the exhaust pipe. 1/4" will have the rigidity to stay intact and allow you to get your leg away from the searing heat and crushing weight, and maybe out of the way of that 18 wheeler coming around the corner that can't stop in time to avoid running over your bike. And get someone who at least half-assed knows how to weld put them on for you, if you don't that is.

I'm thinking I might go with this sort of set up. Lots of welding surface, and because it's three dimensional, it'll have a truss sort of effect for extra rigidity. More fab work than a simple 2D tab but I think it'll be worth it. Thoughts?

formed as a 3d structere boxed like that likely could go thinner than 1/8 .090'' could be easily used if done correctly
one important bit is the lug area for the peg ...

Never mind. I found it. Theirs are a little bulky for my taste.
