Hello all. Ive decided to pull the clutch after numerous attempts to adjust the clutch from slipping were unsuccessful. This is my first time working on a bike so i have zero knowledge about how this thing operates. Can you guys take a look at the pics and give me some advice?

Parts I'm planning to get are:

-Vesrah Clutch Cover Gasket - VL-1008 - Honda CB400F
-EBC Clutch Plate Set - CK1140 - Honda CB350F CB400F CB400T CB450
-Barnett Clutch Spring Set - Honda CB72 CB77 CB350 CB400F CB550
-Genuine Honda - Kick Start / Clutch Adjuster Ball - 96211-10000 - CB175 CB72 CB77 CB400F CB450 CB550 CL450 CB500T.

Somethings i notice were that there wasn't a ball bearing on the center shaft where the basket goes. thought i read somewhere that there needs to be one. hence one of the parts on my order list. also there are some free moving parts behind the basket. is that normal?

i did some more digging and it looks like the positive stopper has a broken piece and one of the springs were installed incorrectly.

That looks like a mix of old style Barnett plates and regular plates. That suggests that a prior owner had a clutch problem and swapped out a few plates to try to fix it.

If that's teh case a set of new plates should fix any plate problem. If it doesn't fix it it may be that the clutch release mechanism is badly adjusted.

Check the spring length and compare to what teh FSM says are the limits. Weal springs could be an issue

thanks teazer. Ive already ordered new clutch plates and springs

Can someone take a look at this and let me know if its right? according to the drawings i have there's a:

116- Disc Spring Seat
123- Disc Clutch Spring
119- Plate B
257- 92mm Set Ring

Doesn't look like that's the case here though? i don have a tool to remove the ring

is there a difference between part 119 and 144? 144 seems easier to come by when doing a search by part number

I don't think I've ever seen one that was properly adjusted (unless I just serviced it ;D )
As you can see in parts picture, 117 & 119 are much narrower than all the other plates as they have damper spring behind them.
If I remember right, you need to get pressure plate machined to use same plate all the way through clutch (pretty sure I've done a few when I was doing 460/490 conversions?) it was around 1980 though, I've forgotten a lot of 'stuff'
Oh, you can remove the giant circlip retty easy with two screwdrivers. One to stop it turning and one to lever it out and up
