Hello all. Ive decided to pull the clutch after numerous attempts to adjust the clutch from slipping were unsuccessful. This is my first time working on a bike so i have zero knowledge about how this thing operates. Can you guys take a look at the pics and give me some advice?
Somethings i notice were that there wasn't a ball bearing on the center shaft where the basket goes. thought i read somewhere that there needs to be one. hence one of the parts on my order list. also there are some free moving parts behind the basket. is that normal?
That looks like a mix of old style Barnett plates and regular plates. That suggests that a prior owner had a clutch problem and swapped out a few plates to try to fix it.
If that's teh case a set of new plates should fix any plate problem. If it doesn't fix it it may be that the clutch release mechanism is badly adjusted.
Check the spring length and compare to what teh FSM says are the limits. Weal springs could be an issue
thanks teazer. Ive already ordered new clutch plates and springs

I don't think I've ever seen one that was properly adjusted (unless I just serviced it ;D )
As you can see in parts picture, 117 & 119 are much narrower than all the other plates as they have damper spring behind them.
If I remember right, you need to get pressure plate machined to use same plate all the way through clutch (pretty sure I've done a few when I was doing 460/490 conversions?) it was around 1980 though, I've forgotten a lot of 'stuff'
Oh, you can remove the giant circlip retty easy with two screwdrivers. One to stop it turning and one to lever it out and up
