Check a manual if you can, if it's like the 650 the swingarm should have a shaft that extends through the center. Remove the nut from one end tap the threaded portion remaining back through the center of the swingarm. Use a piece of brass or aluminum to beat on to protect the threads. Should fall apart at that point. Have never had the pleasure of removing one from a 500 though. Most swing arm ass'y should be similar. Good luck.
