Talk me out of a new Triumph Thruxton

IMO, you get better options with a carb model then an EFI: Better master cylinder options, ( Newer models have a piston vs radial MC), flat-side carbs, 1087 kit, you dont have to deal with remapping, Arrow, DnD, BUB, exhaust options.

Hard to talk someone out of something I own and enjoy. The Thrux is a lot of fun. I would agree with buying a used one, even if it's a new enough one to get EFI, and spending the leftover cash on mods. Throwing on pod filters and a free flowing exhaust really wakes up the engine.

+1. I used to ride a good bit with another DTTer who had a Thunderbird. Really cool bike, great looking. I think he dropped some Speed Triple cams in his. Ya gotta love the triple exaust sound.

l'm Thinking 'Buy lt' l feel if it fits 'go for it' no questions asked...l bought a new VTX crusier a few years ago sooo love it...now it sits there waiting his turn...others choices to ride... do let us know

I like everyones input. I avoid impulse buying now so I like to take a few days to a week mulling it in my head when I see a vehicle I want. I test rode a Royal Enfield Bullit last year and fell in love with it. Waited a week and realized that I didnt like it. It was cool and nostalgic but was super super sluggish with its single piston 500. I was going to get the military model. Out here in California where we have so many women driving bro-dozers and talking on cell phones its good to have extra power to pull you out of trouble. I had no problem with my first bike which was a cam'd 883 I got off this old biker but that Enfield was slow as fuck.
I definately will have to find a dealer with a demo Triumph IF I decide to get it then search for a used one. I was planning paying cash for it anyways.

I keep looking at the triumph dealer near my house, but I just cant get over how ugly the engine is. That and the price are the deal breakers for me. Also the sales guy was going on about how smooth it was, who wants a smooth bike? Seems to defeat the purpose.

I want those vibes!

but I just cant get over how ugly the engine is

Huh? That's funny, I never thought of the Triumph engine as ugly. I have seen some ugly ass engines, but never put the Hinckley Twin in that category.

Please explain, or not, doesn't really matter, I love both of mine.

The top end you see, it is ugly. The cases are trying to resemble the origional but not doing a very good job of it. And who ever heard of a smooth 360 twin? Sounds like witchcraft to me!

Whatever floats your boat.

Beautiful engine + excellent ride + fantastic sound + reliability + most importantly, overall good looks = New Bonneville/Hinckley Twin.

Yeah I donno, I really want to like em, everytime I'm at the dealership to pick up "stuff" (chains, helmets, ect) I always spend a good amount of time looking at them and thinking of financing one. But the more time I spend then less I'm in. Maby thats just my subconcious keeping me from making a purchase I cant afford?

Call me crazy, I am considering trading in my 2009 Street Triple R on one... 8)

lol- I am with you. There are things about every bike I don't like . . . I guess that's why we are inclined to take a bike and make it what we want. ;)

i totaly agree, those TBS are the dog's nuts and do they keep their value? you struggle to get one for under £3.5k over here ,and thats for a 10 year old bike

Ehhh, wouldnt want a TBS. Like I keep saying, if I bought another bike, it wouldnt be carb. Heh, you can map out your cars with OBDII now with your smart phones, imagine what we can do with bikes in a few years 8)
Funny, I see more pro's than cons here. Well responses with more than a few lines saying poser or just "buy this old bike instead." Speaking of which, brutal winter out here makes it hard to ride. Think I'm going to finally get my CB750 out this week. I mean it will be a bone chilling 73 degrees out here in sunny SoCal but I'm sure I'll endure ;)
Jelly?

Didnt see if anyone mentioned this yet but you can re-map your FI Triumph with a free PC program http://www.tuneecu.com/ and a $10 ODBII cable.

Thats what I'm talking about! The insane advantages to EFI and OBDII! Only a matter of time til you can have presets in your smart phone and change your bike when you're on the go.

I grew-up with carbs, and prefer EFI, it just works better with less futsing about.
But I prefer the looks of the old standards vs. the newer race replicas. That said, the Triumphs are more attractive to me than almost any other new bike. Make mine a Bonnie in blue/white please. ;)
Although the Ducati does tickle my pickle:

oh wow! that
duc is gorgeous, why'd you have to show me that!!!!
I actually like the Norton A LOT. I looked at some youtube vids and I would buy that if it was affordable. I could finance but would rather pay in cash and the norton is too much starting at over 15k. I'm going to see about trying to test ride the thruxton today just for shits and giggles.

DUCATI SPORT 1000! Ride one and then decide. I have had mine for a year now and love it! Me and a buddy rode to Barber last year from SC. He has a GT1000. Great trip and comfortable. Just sayin.......
