Tank fabrication

Noticed a couple of posts on other topic regarding tank fabrication.

Finding a reliable tank fabricator has been a real bugbear of mine, I tried to order from the Tank Shop and gave up after a year of being told `next month'. Pete at Custom Tanks and designs had the decency to say up front he had a year waiting list but I understand he has now retired.

In the end I managed to find an original Catalina tank for my TriBSA and that was close enough for my needs.

I'm planning to do something with my sportster next and one of the things I've been thinking of is a XLCR inspired look. There are fibreglass tanks available from the US but I'd rather have a metal tank.

So.... who would you recommend for a reliable custom tank fabrication service.

Yes, Pete Kyte has been retired for a couple of years now - although I believe he will stll do the odd "factory" job.

He made 3 tanks for me in the past and several sets of side panels, seats etc. His prices were unbelievably low. Only problem was the time ..... he would say up front, leave the bike there and it will be done "whenever" !!!

I still have the set of side panels he made for my BMW Streetfighter

AND A "FEW" YEARS LATER !! Still awaiting the front fork / wheel conversion [ now done ]. Ugly rumour going round that it WILL be on the road in 2014 ........................

Apologies for late response....

Not sure at the moment, priority is to get the TriBSA project finished. At this stage I'm just trying to find out if there is anyone in the UK doing tanks who won't give me the run around so if/when the `not a project Sporty' becomes the `project sporty' I'll know where to go.

My Slimline alloy tank was made by T.A,Baker in darkest Wales, website here.. http://www.tabclassics.com/
