tank front indent

good morning,
i am trying to finish my CR project,
i have mounted clip on bars and all looks lovely.. until i turn the bars to left or right. they touch the (original) tank damaging it.
unfortunately i have no other option than denting the tank.
my project is a cb750k2, the cherry red tank is in very decent condition and i am scared of doing this.

is there a safe way to do this nicely?
the images attached are of something i would like to achieve.

thanks

why would you indent the tank when you can limit the steering angle of your moto?

there are steering stop limiters in your lower triple tree.i drilled holes in them and put bolts and nuts trough them to stop hitting the tank with my clip ons.

Just grab whatevers convenient - ball bat, golf club, 2x4 and start bashing it. Looks like the guy used the top of his head on the gold tank. ::)

mmm, that simple?
never thought of stoppers.
need to check the loss of steering, in traffic it is very important.

thanks

On that red tank, you're not getting any more steering out of it anyway. You have to hold the handlebars while turning.

if yer bars are that low and close to the tank then the bike isn't safe to ride in traffic anyway, it would be a track only bike
you need manooveralbility on the roads bro

greatt bike ;)
you will have more fun riding, more control and comfort and be safer, with some bmw bars aka superbike bars those bars are too low for street riding , i mean actual riding

like the man said... add to the stops,, you will loose some parking lot radius but don't bash yer freaking tank in.

Agreed Xb

Yep, superbike bars or drag bars. Fix all problems. Such as no more intense pain in wrists.

ACU regs stated you need 2" between bars and tank, chance of losing a thumb if you go down.
Haven't found any way to dent stck paintwork without it cracking.
Be a LOT easier (and probably better) to find a F1~F2 tank, beat it and re-spray

I made to mistake to dent the tank on my kz400 project,it was a nightmare to make it look clean.

Those clip ons look good when you are riding and standing on the traffic lights but as soon you need the drive slowly, parking etc. They are a big big PIA, especially with such a heavy bike you have

i am going for the stopper option.
firstly because i dont want to dent a good tank, secondly because it just needs 1-2cm to avoid impact.
probably ill try some shorter bolts first.

thanks a ton

Ur spelling will geaux to shit to. :p

Yuwd think I stole that from ole XD, but fact IS my phat fingers and grammar are always subject to the interweb cops so I just make them dig zits off there ass even more.

This is how i limited my steering angle:
I used a good drill bit to drill trough the stoppers mounted on the lower triple (centerpunch first).
Its pretty easy to break the drill bit of,its cast aluminium.
Then i used a inbus screw put it trough the hole.then nut and some shims and you are good to go.
