tank

I make things.
So I've been busy with orders lately, which is good, and I just got caught up today! Woot! I took some pics of my process when I was building a tank for a customer, figured it would be cool to show the process, he's adapting it to a cb900, so I left the mounts off for him to fit easier.

it's made using an epoxy surface coat, west resin, vacuum bagged (trash bags are great, I kept getting leaks with the expensive pink vacuum bag material)

DUDE, ever since I saw your website I've been trying to figure out how the hell you made the tank. Just curious, How do you combine both pieces without having a seam on the inside of the tank where crud can build up?

they're joined with epoxy and chopped glass fiber, i use extra so on the inside it forms a fillet, and the sealer does that a little too

with the pictures you have selected it looks like a one day process. i know there is a lot of work in to these pieces. looks great.

Looks good man. Love the heavy duty molds. What are you using for the mold material? Had much luck w/ that Gold standard tank coating? Damn ethanol.
Yeah, why pay the money for the expensive bagging material when you can buy a whole damn roll of it for a quarter of the cost.

Funny, I use that same scale.

Keep up the good work, you put out a great product.

you should do a writeup!

i know theres a guide out there to do it in Carbon fiber....

maybe you could just tell us what material/epoxy/inner lining you use?

the sealer is the best i've found, the west epoxy is known to hold up to ethanol but i don't want to chance anything, for an extra $20 its worth my peace of mind. the molds were made with the same material, except the bottom mold, which was built using mdf and duratec primer.

the whole process is actually about a week, 1 day for top, 1 day for bottom, 1 day for joining halves, 1 day to let the epoxy gas out before sealing, about 3 days to let the sealer cure before leak testing...

"maybe you could just tell us what material/epoxy/inner lining you use?" - surface coat is pcr - 1301 from plasco, not sold retail, but can be had with some calling around, it's very pricey so I only use it for my tanks, resin is west system, which is sold retail, same with the price, so it really only goes on tanks or cf parts, sealer is KBS gold, vacuum bags by home depot :)

Hey man... where are these located on your site? or are they just to order?
