The old offset monoshock idea...

Been Around the Block
I've been back to work on my GS and I had an idea a while back of converting it to an offset monoshock like the BMW setup. The consensus seems to be that you need a shock long enough to be comparable to the original so it can be mounted at roughly the same angle as stock to decrease the chance of failure. My other project is an '81 Virago that I've converted to hardtail and I thought the adjustable monoshock that came out would be a good candidate for this sort of thing. It's slightly longer than the stockers which is a good thing since I wanted to raise the ride height a little bit and I'm wondering if there's anything I should look out for. I'd like to use the mounts on the shaft side and leave the disc area open but the lower mount on the shaft side comes out of the gearhub. Is one shock too much stress on the gearhub? I'm certain I could mount it on the other side but it would be nice if I can keep it on the roadside. Should I be thinking about stiffening up the rear frame to help keep it from twisting? Any thoughts or advice are welcome.
