I've had a couple of days to work on the bike and put the carbs all back together. Tracking down the o-rings for the vents and connector tubes was a pain but I think I'm ready to get this thing going. Once I'm confident that it'll run, I'll start cutting out my seat base from 3/4" plastic board.
Seat base fabricated, frame supports and wiring plan ready to go, shop semi-cleaned, ready for:
Weld seat base mounts and fabricate frame supports
De-tab frame
Seat base and wiring mount
Install airbox and fabricate filter bracket
Debug carbs and seal boots
Brake light mount/fabricate
Remove rear pegs
Tank/body
I haven't had a chance to mess with the carbs any further but I did get my seat-mount brackets cut out. They are made of 3/16" mild steel and once I holes to through-bolt to the seat base, I can weld them onto the frame using 7018 rod (I'd just MIG them but my machine isn't here). The added bonus is it will stiffen up the rear end quite a bit and give me a good place to ground the electronics.
I've also found a GS1000 for $150 that I might be able to pick up once I have some funds freed up. It hasn't been run since a carb overhaul last winter but it's been stored indoors and needs minimal work to get on the road. The PO needed a headlight and a proper gas tank to get it on the road but has lost interest. I figure I can either cannibalize it or use it as a main ride and spend more time on the project, I won't know until I see it.
I gave my son his first welding lesson yesterday while installing my seat mount/stiffening brackets. I think he'll be ready to strike an arc by his 4th birthday.
