The SkyTeam 'Ace' Resource

Re: the "Ace" - adding lightness!

Hey Crazy, have you managed to kickstart the ACE yet ? its just a few of us on the ACE facebook pagehave taken the kickstart off as we have had no success in kicking them over, it seems like the kick start just dosnt give enough turnover to start, if so what was your starting procedure, choke on off etc
cheers.

Re: the "Ace" - adding lightness!

sprocket2cog - if you look on page 13 of this thread you will see (or is that not see?) that the starter has been removed. I haven't used it in the last three months. And the choke was discarded on page 7!

Bearing in mind the minor mods I have made so far, my starting procedure is fairly simple:

When cold starting I screw the idle adjustment in a couple of turns, and give about three kicks with ignition off.
Turn ignition on and it usually starts in two or three kicks.
Re-adjust idle.

Warm starting is usually no problem.

When the motor changes are complete, particularly with the Mikuni fitted, I expect things to be much simpler!

Good luck!

Re: the "Ace" - all that glisters is not gold!

Another step on the path to removing all chrome from the 'Ace':

Stripped ready for painting. It turned out that the plating was very well done; the chrome was solid and there was thick copper underneath. It took way longer than usual to strip.

Re: the "Ace" - adding lightness!

cool, glad to see you also dont like chrome ! i didnt strip the chrome off, just rubbed it all down with sandpaper and etch primed.
Also thanks for the info on kickstarting, worked it out for mine -, choke half on and two kicks with key off, and she then normally starts first kick thanks for that :)

Re: Re: the "Ace" - adding lightness!

Ahh acid.. I guess it doesn't hurt that plastic either. Neat.

Re: the "Ace" - adding lightness!

sprocket2cog - there's always a suitable kickstart method. The 'Ace' is the first bike I've owned that had an electric leg!

ronnie - HCl is great with plastic but you need to keep an eye on the progress when using it with metal!

Re: Re: the "Ace" - adding lightness!

Got it, thanks.. Never knew it would do that. I know its some nasty stuff!

Re: Re: the "Ace" - adding lightness!

You can learn some great things on here. I copied Strokers idea and mounted my rear indictors to the main frame.

Grinded the frame, so the side stand is now level with the frame.

Re: the "Ace" - adding lightness!

You gotta a lot of nice stuff crazy

Re: the "Ace" - adding lightness!

The big bore kit is definitely going to happen (see page 9) but a whole heap of other changes will need doing first.

Will post some more stuff soon!

Re: Re: the "Ace" - adding lightness!

Not too hard to fit and take about 4hrs. Properly quicker if you knew what you where doing with CG's

Re: the "Ace" - adding lightness!

Looks good Dan!

Mine's taking so long because I'm repositioning the carbie, which leads to moving the battery, eliminating the starter, and doing several other minor changes that occur to me as I'm travelling along.

It would help if I hadn't been swamped with non-bike stuff lately!
