Hi All
Just had a nice couple of nights reading what everyone has been up to - some 'ace' info and ideas in this forum - Thank you - I bought my Ace a month ago, saw it in our local Cheapy, Cheerful, Chinese bike dealer went in looked all over it and bought it for £1650 on the road with a chrome 'performance' exhaust thrown in (not fitted). I have not even ridden it as standard but have started to replace all nuts and bolts with stainless, and I am waiting for Ooracing's big bore kit, carb and stack, performance CDI and an iridium plug to come.
The indicators have to go - foul - and I will fit some mini chrome round ones from Wizard Customs in Sheffield, I have also ordered a Shin Yo rear light, also round, from a place in Germany called Louis Motorrad.
I am very interested in what you are all doing and I have though long and hard about what I want to achieve with my bike.
I am a bit torn with it in some ways. It is a copy of a racer, but I ain't racing it, it's a road bike so I want it to work properly - indicators, lights etc. It looks 60's so I want appropriate looking parts (sorry, don't like piggy back shocks or LP tyres!)
The best conclusion I can reach is to buy another four and make 'em all different!!!
One bit of info I would like to share is that in removing a lot of the fasteners they appear to be made of some king of low grade cheese - frequently stripping and 'galling'.
This is not really that important except that two of them holding the disc on sheared off in the front hub. I drilled them out ok but was not happy with the threads in these two holes or, upon inspection, the others. I am taking the disc off, re-drilling the holes to M8 and re-tapping the hub take M8 bolts.
I intend to gear the bike up but want to try it first - here in sunny Yorkshire we have lots of hills and I am a fat bastard - so I'd better wait and see!
One question I have - when I inspect my chrome exhaust there is a fillet of weld restricting the hole - I want to grind it out but are these pipes double skinned and will it open up a gap between the two if they are?
I will post some pictures as work progresses and once again thanks for all the freely given advice, tips and info!
Dave
