I got this bike in 1992 and rebuilt it then. It was my first bike, and is my oldest in a family of 9 and counting. In 1995 I blew the engine and there it sat until 3 years ago when I dusted it off and rolled it out of the basement. I knew what I wanted to do but wasn't sure how. I wanted a modern, reliable engine, but something off the wall.
Here is where I am at today...
I am still a long ways away from a test ride and have been hesitant on even sharing the project online because I don't know when it will get done.
Not really sure this is a 'cafe racer' but I do know it is a 'big arse project'. ;D
interesting front wheel... different... will have to grow on me... but i like it. reminds me of land speed record guys...
from my bicycling experience (and knowing how to select aero wheels..) -that front wheel will catch sidewinds and push you if your not careful. but that wheel probably reduces the drag on the bike by around 5-10 percent.
Engine is from an '06 BMW F650 Dakar, 650 Rotax single with fuel injection. Was looking at the starter one night and thought it was about the size of my beer, so when I was done with it I cut the can up and I was right. Gives people something to talk about. This is the bike I drempt up the right hand kick stand idea that is on my other bike, just because the left side of the engine is way sexier than the right. Front wheel is a 21" I got a long time ago when I was drag racing it, those are just aluminum covers over the wheel but again I like the looks of it. As far as the wind catching it, it wasn't too bad if I remember right.
The tank is from a '05 Sportster, 4.5 gal. Headlight from a V-Rod. Chain is now on the right hand side. The bike is now taken back apart so I can make the swingarm fit the engine, then I will tackle making the rest of the frame come together.
It is slow going but I will keep you updated as I go along.
