The XS, and the Sidecar of Death

I don't know if it's such a good idea to remove anything that braces the left and right frame rails if your fitting a sidecar, it's pretty surprising the loadings you will get when riding

Yep, haven't made stub axles for about 18~20yrs
Have you found taper roller bearings to fit XS hub?

Hmmmm. Hadn't looked for a tapered roller bearing for the XS hub.

Have a friend that works for McGuire bearing, have him search for some.

Funny the tapered roller bearings are 30204. I used that size for 7 years at an indoor kart track I managed. Axis is a good one.

Slight issue is that the tapered bearings are 15.25mm wide and stock bearing is 14mm. Not a big thing to overcome.

Lots on ebay. SKF, FAG, TIMKEN, KML...

I wouldn't worry about the extra couple of mm.
Whats the inside diameter?
With a stub axle you really need at least 'inner' bearing to be on a larger diameter (25mm+)

I see what you're saying, good idea, stock is 20mm. I'll have my friend find something for the sidecar wheel with the same 47mm OD and at least 25mm ID and make the axle that size?

Yep, much better plan.
To be honest, if I was designing a stub axle I would look at upright off a car, most have axle pressed in which would be much easier to press out, modify then press back in.
Uprights are usually forged steel so would be easier to carve on then weld into chassis
You may find trailer wheel bearings with 47mm OD?
That was easy ;D

Yep, this bit

OK, I would still go larger diameter, unless your only using very lightweight chair?

I've done a few miles on outfits, if you have one that handles OK you will start doing fun stuff, that's when things break ;)
