Thought I'd just say hello...

Hey everyone,

I've been lurking for quite some time now, and figured I should chime in and say something around here. I've got a 1980 CB650C that I'm going to do a bit of work to...hopefully fairly soon! I just picked up a new starter clutch today...rode the bike all summer and it stopped starting in October.

Anyway, the bike should be running great again in the next week or so, and I'll start messing around with some stuff. I was going to postpone doing anything to it, but someone (my father) neglected it while it was sitting in his shop, and it fell over and bent the handlebar pretty bad. Now I don't have any choice! (Works for me!)

I'm in Toronto...anywhere worth knowing about if I'm going to cafe this bike? (Parts, etc...)

See you around!

Welcome to the site man! If you click on the "img" link from photobucket, it will post the pic automatically

I can't help personally with parts in Canada, but you will find a lot of links here soon

Where did you get your starter clutch? Mine was also going before I took her in. Would spin but not engage the flywheel.

Yeah, same problem I had here. I ended up getting it directly from Honda. Found it online in several places, and tried ordering it through a nearby shop (whom I won't be dealing with ever again!). Honda ended up being cheaper than everywhere else, had one in the Toronto warehouse, and called to say I could pick it up only 3 hours after I ordered it!

I don't know what it is now... I'm in the process of stripping the bike and tested the starter, it turned... stuck it back in the bike and just used a battery bypassing the solenoid and it turned over the engine...

I'm no expert, but before my bike gave up completely, I had a considerable amount of trouble starting it each and every time. I was riding to work/school and back and there were more than a few times I thought I was going to have to come back with a truck to get it home. It was like that for over a month, and then conveniently gave up in my dad's garage.

Hey Joel.. nice to meet you tonight at the shop...
I guess soon you'll have a project bike to post up eh??..

Nice meeting you guys as well! I recognized the setup you guys have going on down there from your pictures of that bobber you're working on, and then there it all was!

As for the project, very soon it would seem! It'll be a lot of work, especially since I'm no expert...but it's something very real, unlike this bullshit in art school that never leads anywhere! I'm looking forward to learning a lot, so it will likely be a slow moving project...if you guys catch me banging on the door asking questions, I apologize in advance!
