Thought I'd post my latest non-motorcycle project...

Well, between a 4-day migraine and loosing the A/C part I promised someone, I've actually gotten a bit of work done. Not a lot, mind you, but some!

Mostly, I've been wiring. Obviously, this means I don't have a lot of pictures to show, because cutting, soldering, and putting heat shrink on wires can't really be seen. But there is one place I can show where progress has been made.

Here is the back of the instrument cluster! I used some old connectors I had laying around to make it so the whole thing can be disconnected as a unit.

There has been a lot of "tidying up" of the wires where they run behind the center stack, and some rerouting as well. While doing all this, I was visited by this little guy.

I don't know what he was, but although he is colored to look like a bee, he was not. He tried to feed from the knobs on the CB (who knew they were nutritious?), then fleww away. One cool thing I noticed, but couldn't get a good picture of, was that he folded his legs straight up when flying. It reminded me of some sort of space ship!

That's all for today...

I'd forgotten to update this thread for a while, so I just posted several times to bring the saga up to date.

The best part is, The Thing Runs!

Yes, boys and girls, I fired the thing up for the first time since I started this freaking project. Runs smooth and sounds good.

Until next time!

Wow, nice work. My girlfriend now wife drove one of these when we first met, had to get rid of it when it got way to expensive for gas, half er paycheck every week went on gas LOL. Love these old girls and this one will be awesome when you finish!

Wow, you are putting a ton of work into that Jeep. That thing is going to be awesome once you are finished though. I like the concept of having an older, unique vehicle with a modern drivetrain that has plenty of power and that will be super reliable.

It wouldn't be a project on here without some exhaust wrap!!

Keep up the good work, I can't wait to see it all done!

There was a guy around here that put an Chevy LS engine, tranny and transfercase into an dodge w150. He added NOS and all 4 drag radials. From the outside it looked stock but it would whoop most other rides in town. Then agian he also had a disgustingly fast turbo and NOS camaro that was a serous beast for a street car. Great job on the build... It looks awesome and I would love to own something of this caliber.
Here is some info and video before the NOS.

Thanks guys! It's been a lot of work, but I think it will work out well in the end.

Worst of it is, next year I'll probably paint it and redo the interior!

Fuel mileage is at least part of the reason I'm doing this. Basically, I'll be doubling my HP and my mileage! The original engine made somewhere around 150hp and got around 12mph on the highway. The new engine is 325-350hp and based on others who have done the swap, I should pull 22-25mpg on the highway. And that's a 42 gallon tank!

Exhaust wrap... the exhaust runs a bit close to the transmission, so I figured it was a good idea to wrap it. Never thought about how popular it is on this board though...

Thanks again guys!

Not a lot to show for it, but there has been some serious work going on.

Made the distribution duct for the HVAC.

As you can see, it's becoming a wee-bit tight in the dash!

But it's hung, and the ducts are run.

Installed the gauge panel (hopefully for the last time!). All the gauges work. You can even pull and clear codes with the speedometer!

Modified the overhead console. The speakers are for the CB and scanner. The red lights are my interior lights. Red light doesn't hurt your night vision as much as white.

A couple weeks ago, we picked up a "new" (to us) car for my wife. It's a 1993 300ZX. The thing is nearly perfect! Only 75K on the odometer, and it looks like a 3 year old trade in instead of a 21 year old car.

Had the major service done on it this last week, so it should be good to go. I have a head unit with built in navigation sitting in my living room, just waiting to be installed. Sometime this fall/winter it will get remote start (my wife has MS, and getting into a hot car really sucks the energy out of her).

Today I went for a ride in it--tops off. Found a sweet spot and snapped a few photos of it.

And last, but not least, the critter shot! This cool little guy was flying around while I was working... kind of looks like a painting on velvet, doesn't it?

There you go! As they say, stay tuned!
