That's a great little switch! If you don't mind me following your lead, do you know what bike that is off of? It's almost everything I've been looking for...

http://thisoldtractor.com/gtbender/loopframe_controls.htm (lot's of usefull info on other subjects also).
After some googling I found out that YHA205 has been used in variety of models (like CT1, AT1, DT175 etc).

I think it s a good idea to use the light switch as a kill switch and have lights permanently on (via ignition switch).
I have also been looking something more simple than original (honda cb 500 four) controls and still preserve period correct looks and this seems to be one option.

Re: My XS650 project - update July 9 2008 - More wiring - getting closer...

got any pics of your electronics placement and wiring?

Re: My XS650 project - update July 9 2008 - More wiring - getting closer...

Well, there's a bit on the wiring a few pages back, including my diagram. I haven't bolted any of the electrical bits to the seat tray yet - waiting on warmer weather.

Hey Tim, I just found your thread. Fabulous. I see we sing from the same page.

I see that you've found my thread.

What's happening with your project?

Re: My XS650 project - OMG! AN UPDATE! March 30 2009

HOLY CRAP! I DID SOME WORK ON THE BIKE! ;)

Seriously, I really did.

Got my throttle sorted, which was no small task. I'm running Mikuni VM36 carbs, an aftermarket split throttle cable designed for the Mikuni and the stock XS650 throttle, and a Tomaselli Super Practic B throttle :)

Cable length was off, it had an elbow fitting at the throttle end I didn't want etc. Opened up the Super Practic and saw it came with a bolt-on cable end (whatever you call it). So, I:

Snipped off the end of the cable
Slid off the elbow
Cut it down to a short straight lenght (3/4 inch) that kept the threaded bit for adjustments
Put that back on
Put on the new Tomaselli cable end, slid it up so things were nicely adjusted with a bit of adjustment left at both carb and throttle ends
Tightened the little bolt
Put the throttle back together and BINGO - nice smooth 1/4 turn throttle action.
Verified things, snipped off the excess cable and I'm done

So that's one more small thing done.

Also:

worked on my Boyer ignition module mount
replaced a couple bolts with final length stainless socket caps
routed the clutch cable
played with the front brake cable (still an issue)
mounted both brake and clutch levers
sorted out the tank strap mount at the seat end (need to cut down a couple rod-ends to finish that off)

That's about it. Also sat on the CA95 and made VROOOM VROOOM noises :)

I so badly want a set of those swept back headers you did for your bike. Would gladly pay good money :)

And the engine mounts - just sorting out the right bolts and nuts for this.

Re: My XS650 project - OMG! AN UPDATE! March 30 2009

Heh - your XS650 needs a lot more than a new footpeg rubber ;)

I likely have a few around. I'll have a peek, but it likely won't be till tomorrow or Wed night. I'm going into 2 days of meetings and will be up all night prepping.

People are gonna see your bike and say "hey!!.. Look, Noels bike!!"...LOL!!

I appreciate you looking for me!!

BTW, Tony was working on your bike today. I saw it all apart when I got home..LOL...

Re: My XS650 project - OMG! AN UPDATE! March 30 2009

Uh, last I saw that tank had no petcocks in it.

We averted major disaster on the bike today. Not mechanical - financial. BMW wheel bearings are $72 EACH (2 per wheel needed) if you order from BMW. I found out they're a standard Timken bearing and got them for $17 each. So we saved over $200 per bike on that :) Or rather, didn't spend $200 per bike extra.

Re: My XS650 project - OMG! AN UPDATE! March 30 2009

I might have one that will work if Tim can't find one. Not sure if the extra set of pegs went in the keep or go pile.

Re: My XS650 project - OMG! AN UPDATE! March 30 2009

I got mine from Mikesxs.com - XS650 specific and new.

Yeah... on April 1st... SURE you did  ;D

We need video with Kim swearing on an original Norton Repair manual that you actually did it.

Re: My XS650 project - OMG! AN UPDATE! March 30 2009

Sorry - no Norton manuals around here. You'll just have to have faith.
