Tips and tricks?

Ok well i've been working on my 71 cl350 project very slowly for about 6 months now (mainly getting parts together) im at the point to where i need to decide. I have the external spring forks and i love the way they look but is there a way to make them preform really well? And what are my options on disc brakes for the front? I plan to rebuild and modify the rear drum. Or should i just get some cb500 forks with factory disc brakes and rebuild those?

If you want to change out the front to a disc the easiest way is to get a complete donor front end (triples, forks, wheel, disc, calliper). Then it's just a matter of a bearing swap to match up the new stem....or if you chose wisely you might get a front end with the same bearings so it's even easier.

Pretty sure your CL runs the same stem bearings as the CB350/360/500.

Last model year of the 350 (CB350G) came with a front disc. You should be able to find a wheel, caliper, disc, master, etc. on eBay and do a straight swap. If you wanted to upgrade to larger forks at the same time I'd go with Hillsy's suggestions and swap an entire front end. I think the 550s stem may be longer than the 350, though, so you could be looking at pressing out and swapping the stems in addition to possible bearing changes.

I was thinking an upgraded cb360 front end. Nissin caliper, nissin master, braided hose and better rotor.
