Tire advice

Hey guys,

I'm looking for a new set of tires for my cb250. I'll be starting my cafe project (hopefully :p) in the near enough future so I want to get a set that will look well with the cafe look. The cheaper the better!

The tire sizes are front: 90/100-18. Rear: 120/90-16

I love the look of the avon am26 but as far as I could tell they don't make any that will fit.!?

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance :)

Check Duro and Shinko. Both make tires for small bikes, and if you have room to shoehorn in a 130 rear, there are more choices than you can shake a stick at. 130/90-16 is the most common HD tire made and you can get some serious retro treads if you shop around.

Happy hunting!

Check out the SHinko 712's. There are tons of great reviews about them. inexspensive and good in quality, one of the best bang for the buck tires out there.

Invest some money in an 18 inch rim and spokes for the rear wheel - don't take another step with a 16" rear wheel on a cafe racer. That's my recommendation. Not only does it look wrong, I think an 18/18 setup will handle better. What's a 16" wheel doing on your Cb250 anyhow? Someone try to turn it into a chopper? Does it have ape hangers on it too?

Also, skip the 120 rear. WAY too wide for your bike and wide tires do not work better. I have a 110 on the rear of my XS650, and a 100 on the rear of my BMW 750.

Thanks for the advice guys!

Its a 92 cb250 so those tire measurements are the stock (correct me if I'm wrong?!). It did strike me as pretty strange that the rear wheel was smaller than the front, but hey I'm new to this so what do I know? :)

It has a michelin m29 on the rear now, I read somewhere they don't make them anymore? I'm glad, they're an ugly tire anyway.

Keith, those shenko's look great, I'm gonna call my local shop to see whats available here. I live in Ireland and you can't always get what you're looking for.

Tim, thanks I'll look into jumping up to an 18 inch rim. Certainly would make things easier!

According to the owners manual (found a copy online) the tires are:

Tire - Front: 90/100-18
Tire - Rear: 120/90-16
Brakes - Rear: 130 mm drum

So stock is a wide 16 inch....Wow

Didn't realize the 250 had such small tires. The older 250's are just the 350 or 360 with a smaller engine. Tire sizes stayed the same....

The 92 cb250 was the "nighthawk" in the united states. My bro has one and yea...it has a 16" rear wheel. It was more of a mini cruiser.
