Tomos Rudeboy Wrecker

Rude Boy

"Strong Like Lion, We Are Iron"
Alright, well all you suckas with your fancy motorcycle build threads can stick it cuz as of now I'm having a hard enough time getting something just to eat, while your out buying mikuni carbs and BSA tanks.
In this thread (my first build thread) Im gonna break the mold in all directions, and use a Tomos Sprint
I picked this up from an old folk I was doing some work for; missing a kickstand, horn-headlight-breaklight doesn't work. both pedals point downwars?? Bike isn't titled w/ no papers whatsoever, not even a license plate!
But the bitch runs and thats all that counts. Im not going to give a damn about the legality of this bike, Im on good terms w/ both cops (I worked as an EMS and play music w/ one of them, small island hell yeah) and Im sure they'll let something like this slide as long as I don't hit anything valuable.
This is going to be a cheap botched job, but all the same I got big plans for the bike. Its getting a new back tire, a chain, and paint then thats it for spending. We got a great "take-it-or-leave-it" store where you can do just that, so that'll be my parts provider.

Look up Rude Boy in wiki if you don't know what it means. Fits the ped and people I hang out with. Poor kids trapped on an island who listen to early ska/rocksteady and fuck shit up? Hmmmmm...

Photos of the Tomos so far and a paint job mockup:

How I got him.

Color scheme and seat rough. Notice also headlight, bars, & lack of brake-light(might put one under the seat, but thats cash)
Leather is going to be a skateboard pan, some seat foam and an old leather jacket.
Also looks like whoever the owner is of the tomos above modified the rims, Im going to look into how much strength that takes away. Certainly looks better.

15min of work in: seat gone, replaced w/ deck. Handlebars off a mountain bike. They don't fit right yet, nice mini drag bars though. I'll make um work or find a replacement.

mail-2.jpg

This is the basic stance im going for w/ the bike. My plan is to weld some sort of foot peg onto the lower shock bolt (where the foot is) What are your thoughts on putting pegs on a swing arm? My plan w/ the messed up pedals is to chop off the left one and tie up the right one w/ a rope so it'll operate just as a kick-starter and stays out of the way. Also notice I removed the fugly faring over the headlight, gonna clear up and waterproof the wiring. wont have a speedo or odometer anymore, but who needs them on a moped (+they didn't work anyway ha!). much better.

Thats all for now. I'll post up more when I get more. Limme know what you think about rear-sets on a swing arm.
Gonna build this ugly sucka.

GO GO GO!
It's got to be done.
You're not the only one on here without a pot to piss in, and that's what makes the builds more interesting!
Free the beast!

Its good to start with a scooter you will learn the basics on how motorcycles work +1
Alright, Stript... I demand to know who's spreading libel about me not knowing basic motor mechanics. haaa

Anyone have thoughts on welding some rear-sets onto the swing arm? (see last pic caption) I'd like to do that asap.

Justin, The starting system on the Tomos is really odd: Instead of a compression lever and pedaling forward, you actually kick the pedals backwards like a regular motorcycle kick-start. figure I'll take off the left pedal and tie up the right one w/ a string.
Am I mistaken and there is a way to bump it?

Von, I do still have the fairing. Im gonna hold on to if for a bit to make sure I don't want it but afterwards if your still interested, pay for shipping and its yours.
Words on swing arm mounted rear-sets?

Swinging arm rear sets are easy just a bit uncomfortable with your feet and legs being moved all the time.
Use the rear wheel spindle as an attachment point?

Yeah i have heard it all before , my dad is a tv repair man hes got a killer set of tools. Alright Late!!

This is my take on the skateboard deck seat on my little 50. If you cantilever the mounts a bit it does a nice impression of suspension.

Good to hear Erskine.
Here's what I did today.

IMG_1756.jpg

Figuring out exactly where Im going to mount the seat.

Cutting

IMG_1763.jpg

Cut. I'll prob. respray this black, but I had some gold laying around and can not resist gold. I can not resist gold. Shoulda seen the bicycle I had as a kid, straight up gold pimping.

IMG_1768.jpg

removing the "gay pride" tomos decal. major time consuming job.

Looking at this photo w/ these bars makes me want to turn this into a bobber instead. Think about how sick it would be to have a seat on the flat part of the frame above the motor, back rest, use those bars as ape hangers, extend the front rake and have foot pegs attached to the front wheel, chop the back fender almost to the shocks. hahaha, That'd be so fuckin SICK! That will prob be what I'll do to her after I get bored of the "cafe" setup".
Tomorrow brings on sum metal work. stay tuned sucka.

Sweet ride man, looks like a drunken dream ride! tank is beautiful. How many gears does it have?
I don't quite pick up on what you mean "If you cantilever the mounts a bit it does a nice impression of suspension." do you have some more pics of how its cantilevered? And what do you mean by "nice impression"? haha, Thanks man!

Thanks man. The little bike is a riot. The tank is being redone right now actually, a friend of mine is a mean graffiti artist and I gave him free reign on the tank. It is a 3 speed.

By cantilevered I mean that there is quite a bit of the seat not supported by the mounts (mine mounts very close to the front). This makes the old maple deck act as a spring...I hope that makes sense. The "nice impression" bit was may way of saying that it works, but not too well..lol

Very cool.. I haven’t seen a scooter in years and I’ve never a project one, so I’m deffently interested in the build sir..

For what it worth, if your looking to help speed up the prep time and preserve the paint, you might want to think about getting some “ goo off”.. Homedepot has it, and it takes the stickers and the backing right off..

Here’s a link the contains 30 common hose hold items that will also well.. just incase you didn’t know.. http://tipnut.com/25-helpful-items-to-remove-sticky-adhesive-goo/

Hope that helps and best of luck in your build.

Tdc.

aah, I see what your saying now Alpina. I thought you had fastened the deck on the truck screw slots too. Im pumped to see that tank when its done! throw up a pic on here if you remember to!

Damn tdc! Thanks for that sick link! I'll give it a try today.
