Triumph-ant woes

Hey everyone,

First post for me on this thread. At the beginning of this season I made the purchase of a 2000 Triumph Thunderbird 900, and after a season and a few thousand miles, the bike is about to clock 40k. So, i'd like to ask a few tid bits and get some advice!

I am aiming to make the bike more mine, kinda cafe look, kinda a bobber look? i'll see if i can find some inspiration pictures. Love the hundreds of cafe'd, track'd, bobb'd, etc hondas, suzukis, and yam's but im having a hard time finding more triumphs! Well aside from the bonne :)

So far I have only noticed 2 major things..

1.) Bike is running VERY RICH. Pipes are blued, and the exhaust pops on all steady speeds, even idle, but not really on acceleration.
--> Can anyone point me in maybe what the cuplrit in the carbs could be for this issue? YES i am rebuilding them -- I'd also like to jet out for pod filters so i NEVER have to remove this darn air box again..

2.) If I romp on the throttle to wide open, the bike wants to bog and does, but now it almost feels as if its only running on 2 out of 3 cylinders at points..
-->Could this be a clutch issue? Or possibly related to the carbs?.. I will be replacing the plugs and cleaning

The seat just doesnt work for me. It doesnt look original (so if anyone wants to trade lmk!) Looking for a bonneville type seat.

I will add more photos and questions as soon as I get a chance!

Thank you for reading.

What makes you think its VERY RICH in the first place? What you are describing is the exact opposite. Probably someone has altered intake/exhaust without rejetting and it is VERY LEAN.

Am i wrong thinking running RICH means too much fuel in the a/f ratio?

Also i managed to pull the 3 carbs and airbox out last night and break into the carbs.. Some findings:

My jet combo seems to be 86/38? Is that normal? couldnt tell if i was missing a number but will get pictures this weekend.. patriots were on last night so had a few brews haha

Center carb boot was not attached fully to the engine. center and right side slides get stuck.

My coolant system seems to be missing some sort of connector and a right angle connector is snapped, could explain the rain drop like feeling while on the highway.

I didnt get tooo far into them as i said pats were on brews were consumed, but i plan on putting on pod filters instead of the ugly air box, if i have the jets for it.

Thanks for the response btw.. ill post more questions and findings after this weekend :)
