My buddy just bought a '66 Triumph Bonneville from a guy in Daytona and I am honeslty clueless when it comes to Triumph's but he has asked me for help...
Where online can he find gasket sets, oil seals, side case gaskets (maintenance parts) for this bike. Im a Honda guy so I have no clue. Maybe a strictly Triumph site?
Oh and to add some questions...
Did any model Triumph come hardtailed? Cuz if not he has a modified one on his hands! And... what model would it be (how can I tell) if it's a 1966 650cc Bonne? Any common issues with these I should look over?
Hey 904, stock bonneville's were not hardtailed, in any year of manufacture. but parts aren't that hard to find online and I think locally here in J'ville Cyco Cycle over off Beach Blvd on Leon Rd has some parts, at least his yellow pages advert says so. I just bought reproduction switches from Sterling Motorwors for the Xs650 and they are primarily a brit bike place. Also just thought of Countryside Cycles over in Tallahassee.
I have built several Triumphs, BSA's, Nortons and currently ride a Triton. One of my favorite bikes is the 66 Bonnie so your friend is very lucky.
Domiracer (www.domiracer.com) in Ohio are great and offer great customer service (Tony is helpful).
Mitch Klempfs (www.klempfs.com) is extremely knowlegable and has everything for unit Triumphs. Slightly higher prices, but I have been buying from him lately because he is near my house and I stop in or get things shipped in 1 day.
Sterling Motorworks also in Ohio (sterlingmotorworks.com) are great for many OEM and reproduction parts (gaskets, cables, decals etc)
British Only (www.britishonly.com) in Michigan has EVERYTHING, but you cannot talk to a human being and ship only two days a week. I used to order nearly everything from them but no go elsewhere unless absolutely necessary.
There are many others but I tend to be locally or regionally for cheaper and faster shipping and they ability to talk to someone when needed.
DO NOT but anything on E-bay from Chicago area or use British Parts Chicago. Marshall Hagy and his infinite E-bay aliases is a liar and a thief. He ripped me and hundreds of others over the years. This is not slander but fact; check the Better Business Bureau's F rating and pages and pages from his victims on Britbike form.
The best resource whatsoever is the Britbike forum (http://www.britbike.com/forums/ubbthreads.php). A wealth of experience and wisdom from people riding, building, racing and selling British bikes. Check their vendors, sponsor and customer reviews. Any question can be answered there. A great forum like DO THE TON.
i may swing by Cyco Cycle today on my lunch with my friend. question (keep in mind im a Honda guy), on the front and back side of the motor... there are these silver vertical plenums, which look to me like oil passages??? and they are leaking on his bonneville. common? whats the proper term for these so I can research how to go about replacing the seals or gaskets? the valve covers seem to be leaking a bit as well. and so it begins!
Plenums? I think you are referring to the two pushrod tubes running from the case to the cylinder head. The seals are a common leak point, require proper sized seals and can be a pain and time consuming to make leakproof. Britbike forum has dozens of threads on this.
Down load a free 1966 Triumph manual here: http://www.gabma.us/page2.htm under manuals

Ya I've done a lot more research and found that indeed what is leaking is the pushrod covers. A local shop had the in stock (Cyco Cycle) along with the valve cover gaskets etc etc. Time for a little fun. I found a online manual through a source here on the forums! Thanks guys, I'll let ya know!
