I was looking into tires for another project and found some tires i like but they were recommended for tubes. The rims I will be putting these tires on will be tubeless. Can I install tube type tires on tubeless rims?

As far as im aware, no. They wont seat properly. They dont make those same tires in a tubeless type? What kind of tires are they?

Is that the way it goes bob? I thought a tube tyre would still seat on a tubeless rim (with a tube, obviously), but you can't put a tubeless tyre on a tubed rim because they don't have the necessary channel to trap the bead?

Happy to find out otherwise :)

You can run either on either - you just need to use a tube.

yeah you can... Technically you can put a tubeless tire on a tubed rim but its not a great idea and not very safe at all.

I could be wrong, but ive heard stories about guys trying to run tubed tyres on comstar wheels back in the day (because they were cheaper) and having the tires unseat while riding. Then again, they could be just that... stories.

Call a local cycle shop and ask them, or the manufacture of the tires you want. The manufacture should be able to give a definate answer on way or the other.

Give the man half a cigar.
Just drop at least one speed rating.

Maybe they were running 5" tyres on 2" rims ::)

Thanks for the info guys. I was thinking a tube type would be alright just not the other way around. So should I run a tube or could I get away without one.

Oh. I just remembered something.
You will need adapters to make sure valve seats properly.
I haven't seen them since early 80's but I think they are still out there (shouldered nut to fit valve)
