Turbo on my 81 550

Hi all I have a 81 kawi kz 550 (extreamly low miles) and a recently purchaced used t3 turbo, now im all in fits because one im conflicted in the area for oil return. one is the trany breather port on top of the gear box and two modifiying the oil cap and threading a fitting to it. Secondly and really important is oil feed from either center of filter housing by way of banjo bolt or the oil press censor port. :-\
 
The T3 Is WAY to large for your little 550. You do not have enough exhaust volume to spool a T3 and even if you did, the compressor efficiency is not even on the same map. ( this is regardless of your compressor/ turbine trim and a/r .. there are hundreds T3 combinations... whatever you have.. sell it off )

You need a tiny turbo.... like GT12. The turbine needs to be the correct size and a/r to take advantage of your rpm redline and the compressor side needs to have the highest efficient flow at WOT.

You have allot of homework to do... but it will be fun
 
Hey thx for the info, im only using the t3 because it was only 100$. Still info is hard to come by in a clear and easaly understood way. Right now im fabbing everything up to have proof of concept.
 
Time to celebrate I finally started on the mailbox for my carbs and eventuality the turbo

That was the rubber that mount the carbs to its a piece of balsa that's going to be covered in carbon fiber when it's all done. Next is the blow off valve made out of salvaged aircraft parts.

In the rubbers I placed an injection nozzle for extra fuel.

Having not figured that out yet being taking under advisory since pressuring the fuel via boost line may not be the best idea. My main hang up is weight when done the bike is got to be wet under 350 pound so shaving every little bit helps since I have to reinforce frame sections to deal with the extra power from the turbo.
 
So far I've shortened the wheel base by turning around the front forks by two point five inches. I've also dropped the front by an inch. I've done this to make the bike a bit more squirly in the corners.
 
I already done allot of work to frame, the standard grind everything off I don't need including both stands. Hump and seat are going to be built like an aircraft wing with ribs and spars of 1/32 aluminum. I'm adding a few layers of Kevlar cloth and resin on weight bearing sections. The airbox is Balsawood with two layers of carbon fiber. I'm hoping to be able to replace all the aluminum covers as well with carbon fiber. I replaced the original lake tank with a lighter Suzuki one. And being the most PIA is the wiring harness what is now only a quarter of what it was since I chopped, lights, signals, all the automatic crap for the minimal allowed to be street legal with HI LED,S. I'm also going to save weight by using an oil called mil-l-23699 it can work under extremely tough conditions it's a bit thinner but weighs in about a pound or so lighter than 20/50 for the same amount.

The reason I ask is because that's not the preferred method for introducing additional fuel.

Traditionally, you just increase the size of the main jet. This is because the turbo is unlikely to spool up in any conditions aside from wide open throttle.

I'm assuming that since you're going with multiple carbs, that you're working on a blow through system. Have you picked out your fuel pump? Do you have a pressure regulator and an air plenum ready to go? Are you going with or without an intercooler?
 
Well since talking to y'all I'm looking for a turbo to compliment the motor 5k to WOT.
 
Unless I'm mistaken:

5k = 5000 rpm, an indication of the engine's rotational speed
WOT = wide open throttle, a measure of the throttle position

Can you clarify where you you want the motor to be complimented?
 
I think that point that ako was trying to make is that RPMs and throttle setting are two different beasts.

WOT is an acronym for Wide Open Throttle. Obviously, the throttle can be wide open at any RPM range and it is quite possible, in many circumstances, for an engine to redline without having the throttle all the way open.

read what you posted clears up allot of things, but in regards to fuel pressure so pound for pound match plus three, can you recomend a decent fuel pump?

You need the pump if you're going to run a blow through system, regardless of whether or not you're using fuel injection. This particular pump won't likely work with an EFI system anyway, the pressure is too low.

My eventual goal is to run EFI, but I'm probably going to go with a carbbed setup to begin with just so I can say I've done it.
