twisted spokes????

There's no way in hell I'd ever put twisted spokes on my bike.

But I want to see you do it.

A cafed bike out of LA with a latino influence sounds like a neat concept. If it's done well, it's well done.

Will the wheels blend into an overall theme, or just be an awkward stick out like a sore thumb addition?

Ha, ha! That's great! ;D

I'm with you C!! Do it! Do it! Do it!! ;D ;D

Very cool idea. But I'm going to be my usual ornery self and argue against it. It reminds me of the jewish corned beef tacos you can get on Fairfax Blvd. in L.A. Corned beef is good, and tacos are good, but together? Not so much.

I don't care for fusion cuisine, and i don't care much for fusion bikes either. But you could make a hellafied custom east L.A. badass "El Esportster" lowrider with satin red paint, old school outlined flames on the tank, and twisted spokes, for sure.

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Lovin' every minute of it!

Wow... From Twisted Spokes to "You're not cafe" and back to twisted spokes... Like sand through the hourglass. These are the days of our lives.
BTW I also wouldn't put twisted spokes on my bike...
BUT I also want to see you do it.

man... still arguing about "what is and what isnt cafe?"

Helloooooo. you ride a "cafe styled" bike, you are not a "cafe racer." Just a reminder, its 2009 and we are in the U.S.

by this post you just posted... you sound really closed minded. and where did this whole East LA thing come from... hahaha.

dont get so upset.

Now you can see twisted spokes in their proper context. It's your bike, do as you please.

True, I'm not a cafe racer. My bike is.

No, I have an opinion that is not the same as yours.

East L.A. is an epicenter of mexican american culture, and some say it's the birthplace of the lowrider. See Dr. J's post for examples of lowrider bicycles.

Huh?

DrJ, your ability to ALWAYS find info on any given topic, or answer ANY question is slightly disturbing. ??? Although VERY fascinating at the same time.

I'm intrigued! Keep it up! ;D ;D ;D

nice to see you take the high road on this one Garageman. seems you have struck a nerve. up front I must say I think twisted spokes on ANY motorcycle is just stupid. they serve no purpose. past that, my "opinion" is trumped by my whole hearted support of freedom of expression. the key here is that you asked. now you are being told. fact is, I think the cafe world is morphing continuously. I don't particularly like some of the changes I see but, who the fuck am I? I'll ride what I want to ride and I'll continue to laugh at, or drool over, a whole lot of bikes. I appreciate the ascect of 'cafe' that envolves one's personal passion tempered by a significant lack of cash. doing the most with the least. the anti-bling. I am sooo sick of 20, 30, 40 K$ bikes I could start shooting. they ain't goin away tho. they RUINED all things Harley for me, but I expect to hear of the orange co chopper guys building a $100K "theme" cafe racer sometime soon.
Real "bikers" were PISSED that so many assholes stole (bought) their lifestyle, and I can see why. nobody that works hard to find a place in life to fit in, likes to see it mocked or abused. individualism is tough to achieve and tougher to lose.
however your build comes out, I want to see it. keep us posted.
(now that I've put you to sleep.... "Gman.... don't use twisted spokes".. ok, wake up now)

Alas, it is a blessing as much as it is a curse. I am merely a student of the world.

Those bikes are killer.
stands out very nice. the builders burned my "twisted spokes" idea! hahaha :D

I'm a big fan of the do your own thing....thing. If you want twisted spokes...so be it. I mean, isn't the point of customizing anything purely to make it how YOU want it? Seriously, I'm sure as hell not going to decided to change something on my bike and call 50 people to vote if it stays or not.......if they don't like it...thats really not my problem....if I look at it a week from now and think.......for the love of god thats ridiculous....thats a different story. The point is.....it's what I want. I can understand looking for opinions if your stuck on something......but don't ultimately base what you do solely on the opinions of others.....where would we get any semblance of originality from doing shit like that? I do not by any means consider my bike to be a cafe....cafe inspired possibly....but to me it falls into the genre of mine...and thats all that matters.

Who would have thought that a little thin piece of metal could generate such a hot topic.

dirtywhiteboy summed up my feelings exactly, well said. Most of the bikes on this site are not true cafe racers, but cafe inspired bikes with our own flavor of style (sometimes restricted by skill or money). My bike is far from a pure cafe, and some may cringe when they see it, but I like it and that's what is important to me.

Twisted spokes are not my thing, but if you like them give them a try, they may suit your bike. Your bike, do it your way. Do you know anyone with a wheel with these spokes that you could use as a mock up on your bike, just to see if you like them?
