Two Stroke Question

I'm in no position to be taking on a new project (got a five-month old) but I'm noodling around a "poor man's" two-stroke. The simplest thing to do would probably be to buy a GT750 and be done with it. Trying to find a H2 (to say nothing of how rare a race water-cooled set of cylinders would be) is becoming virtually impossible.

However, I'm thinking about a twin instead. An RZ350 would be easiest, but they're not exactly common (or cheap) these days, either. I'm wondering about a bike based on the '88 GSXR frame I've got in the garage. I'd like to keep it with a Suzuki format, so I'm wondering about a T500 (which are still available cheap). The question I've got is how you'd go about converting it to liquid cooling? If you could find a set of TR500 cylinders ($$$$$$$$$$$$$) that's a possibility, but not practical. I suppose if you had access to somebody with a lathe you could turn the cylinder down and simply weld a water jacket on to both the cylinders and the cylinder heads. Sounds like a lot of expensive machine work and plumbing.

So here's my whacked out idea. A current RM250 Suzuki puts out about 45 hp. That means two of them should put out somewhere around 80hp (calculating for losses), right? What are the chances of simply grafting two RM cylinder assemblies on to a T500? I realize that's not going to be cheap either (especially compared to simply starting with a GT750) but it certainly would be an attention-getter.

Anyone with experience with Suzukis have any thoughts?

There was a GT750 parts bike that sold on ebay about a month or two ago for like $300.00. It was about 2 hours from me,but I didn't bid(too many projects as it is).

A built GT750 engine in a old GSXR chassis would be cool as hell. I've thought about putting a S3,H1 or H2 engine into a modern chassis, but that an expense and time I don't have right now.

Just snag my H2 and convert IT!! ::)

Seriously... it sounds like a mega buck project unless you can do much of the work your self or you have a machinist friend that owes you his right arm!! Sounds like fun though! ;D

you can come a long way with the air cooled T500 - I know a guy that has build a T500 road racer that revs like nothing I have heard before. Most of the secret is that all the internal components are very, very light-weight (and of course expanison chambers, custom ignition, porting, etc etc). If you do a complete engine tune up then later you could experiment with the water cooling...?

Satan get behind me.

There are TWO GT-750's about 60 miles from here--$750 each, supposedly, if they haven't sold yet. Wonder what he'd want for both?

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr............

I just realized my plans could be for naught if the exhaust ports on the #1 and #3 cylinders of the GT750 motor fall precisely where the downtubes on the GSXR frame. Jethro's gonna need to do some cypherin'...

Sorry, brain fart... didnt read the whole thing.... my bad.... word the wise... dont inhale...

Who said anything about two engines? I'm thinking of just the GT mill in the GSX-R frame. ???

Sounds like you're 'off to the races' with your GSX-R-GT750!! ;D ;D

Keep us informed!! ;D

BTW, where are you located?

Columbia, MO

Looking for a rolling chassis 1993/94/95 GSXR if anyone's got one. I wouldn't mind a GT 750 wire spoke front wheel with the dual discs, either!

;D

Sounds like you're gonna have fun with that!! ;D

if you are hooked on liquid cooling, I would be looking for a tired banshee. much cheaper than an RZ

if air cooled is what you want to do, there's a ton of options.
