TX500 build

i am going to play wiht some ideas... i do not think it will be an issue... my feet are plenty out of the way... i like that idea but i am really feeling how these short shots look... we will see after she is fired up!

FWIW, guys, the first iteration of pipes on the CB360 I built had the exhaust outlet very near the toes. It never caused an issue.

Hey, Joe. I read your post in another thread asking about jetting for short pipes. I ran #135 jets when I had short pipes (stock headers plus 12" supertrapps). Here's the part number for those jets: 99202-601-1350. I paid $5.48 each at my local Honda dealer, a few years ago.

ok... before i list anything here... yes i realize the red I shot on the mufflers was a BAD idea... YES it will be sanded and shot black... ok... so
got the rough finish on the heat shields done... also drilled out a piece of alum with the mill to give me added strenght for the rear brake... but did it wihtout the bike there... so that needs a bit more work to complete...
going to powder the shields tomorrow...

used the ban saw to cut them

used the mill to gap them

stretched them

If you're already doing all that welding on the exhaust, I think a threaded bung welded to the exhaust will look better than the hose clamps. Just two (HOT) tacks per bung, then thread the bolt through that. Just a thought.

Shields are gonna look great. Nice work! I.m not digging the brake linkage though. Just my opinion, so take it as such. I know its in mock/trial &error phase... (you seem a little like me where you are willing to do something 5-6 times before you are happy with it ;)) but thought I'd give my 3cents (inflation). Troy

chris that was the plan when i started the shields but they looked to plain when i was done... so i added on the allen head bots and made small spacers so that the shield is flat across the pipe and compensates for the 1.5 header to 2 in muffler... this way the shield is perfectly flat... granted i could have done the same just tapping a spacer to the header and muffler and threading it but i was tired as hell at that point
so the hose clamps worked great so i went with them...

Troy... i am not so crazy about the linkage either... my buddie is a machinast and he wanted to do someting wild... we tried to make it without the bike there... nothing fits, not even close... so from here i have to change it again... i may just go simple... i keep trying to go wild and it is just not working. i just want to get it done... i have a bunch of round bar that i will thread and powder tonight to see how that goes/looks/functions.... i want to ride this sucker in the next week or so! just want to get done... i have 3 others to build still!
i think i just have to KISS! (keep it simple stupid)

I hear ya JRK, Its a battle when you try to take something and make it special, and at the same time trying to get it finished. You have a great eye and willingness to try something different and that shows in your build. If it doesn't function, look right, etc.. you don't hesitate to do it over or try make it right. Your build is a true labor of love and it shows. Everyone has an opinion and different taste, but this is one of those builds (like many on this forum) that even if someone doesn't like it, they will still be able stand back and appreciate what has gone into it. Like I said the hard work and creativity really shows and I can't wait to see video of you riding it ;D

alright.... i know i will hear it, yes i know the heat shields may discolor... but i can also just shoot them again... a buddy said shoot em white so i shot em white... LOVE how it looks! you can see the chrome tip of the baffle sticking out... hell i am even leaving the red under it (reminds me of the old school cherry bombs)
i also took an extra set of turn sigs apart and shot them white while i had the rest in... still up in the air on that one...

HELP ME DECIDE... chrome or WHITE brake light/ running lights
(bear in mind that the seat will be all white as well)

chrome:

White:

I like what your doing there. I'd say the white over the chrome, but it maybe different when you've done the seat.

What's your master cylinder off? I think I like it more than the square one I'm going to use.

The white turn signals, along with everything else, look great. I hope you're able to ride it in a week like you're planning to!

May be contrary to what everyone else thinks, but since the seat is going to be white I would go with chrome for the turn signals to bring out the polished covers. The white turn signals would get lost under the seat. Just my opinion.

I like the white for the signals. those shields would look good drilled, and what about twisted round bar for the brake arm.Just some thoughts it looks real nice though

i think i need to do the seat before settling on tail lights... either way they are done so it is a 30 second swap if i want one or the other... i thought about drilling out the shield as well... still may... we have to see what will happen with that... i am just not sure how i would drill it... in the back of the shield there is a flange for the tail piece of the muffler and in the front if i drill it you will see the welds... i guess maybe in the middle do 5 holes then 4 then 3 may look cool... going to have to think about that one
she is coming together though!

sick as hell today... so had to do something on the bike... did wire wraps on my oil lines... did a write up in the under $50 thread to go over how to do it... also got an AWESOME new tool!
