This is a seriously nice ride and I'm glad I got to see it in person. I'm also glad everything turned out ok after the spill. I got there too late to help you fix it but the checkout ride the next morning was fun.

The new seat looks great too. Make sure you get some good padding. 1 inch of neoprene is rough on the rear for anything over an hour.

Where you gonna mount the passenger pegs? Don't you have your rearsets taking up the passenger peg brackets?

I'm going to get a set that will act as a stud for my rear shocks, but they will fold up when not in use and sit to the side of the rear shock. They will pretty much be in line with the lower bolt for the rear shock.

@Flug: Good times Michael. I was glad to have taken that mornig ride with you and Fix. Who else was with us that morning?

I think it was just us three on that early ride before heading to barber. I hope we can meet up for some more rides this year.

Can't wait to see it again with luck in 2012! Come to BUB Speed Trials at Bonneville in August :)

Hell yeah man. The one up seat looks great.

My 400/F has the stock passenger pegs mounted to the swingarm.

Yeah with a lot of luck. I am not sure if I will be able to make it. I really want to, but I don't have the resources to do the trip this year. it will take me 8 days just to travel back and forth from NC, I have to wait and see where I am with finances closer tot he time. I have some loans I need to pay off first.

Thanks Justing. I gotta see a photo of how you mounted yours. It's been suggested to me before by another firend as well. But I have a certain idea in mind at the moment. We'll see.

That seat looks great man!

As far as the passenger pegs go, could you get some universal clamp on pegs and have them welded to the swingarm?

Thanks so much Rich.
About the passenger pegs...I can't weld onto my swing arm because it is powder coated like the rest of the frame. But I already have an idea planned which I know it will work because i have done it with regular passenger pegs, except I want them to be knurled to match the rearset pegs that I have on now.

The lower bolts which hold the shocks onto the swing arm will have to be about 3/4" longer to accomodate the spacer that will be between the passenger peg mounts and the swing arm. The only problem I have is finding an knurled aluminum set of pegs which will mount like the stock set that I have now which look like this:
http://www.mikesxs.net/product/99-0680.html

So I plan on using a set just like what I have and inserting a stud and a couple of nuts inb etween the pegs and the shock instead off a thick spacer. So it will be rearset peg, threaded stud in the peg, then two nuts to lock the peg in place, and the rest of the stud goes onto the swing arm to hold the shock in place. Let's see how it works when I get it done.

I'm in Greenville SC. Almost 4.5 hours away I think. That's a long ride. :(

What a story, dude! You should be really happy with the way that thing came out, too. It looks awesome, esp. with the solo seat. Seeing how you include your son in everything you are doing is an inspiration as well!

How is the Shorai working out for you?

You know I've read this thread a about three times over the last couple of months and haven't commented because I haven't had anything of value to add, however the most recent updates are just such a great illustration of what this whole motorcycling thing is about.

Great thread, great Barber story, great display of friends working to help someone out and a lovely bike getting better with each new piece of work completed on it .

As an aside I'd be interested to know how the Shorai is working out for you as well.

Thanks T. My Son can't wait for the garage to be finished so we can get back on his SL350. He keeps bugging me about it. I don't know where he get's it from, LOL
I had a detached 20 x 20 garage built next to the house. I have to start working from home next month so I actually was going to build an office built because I did not want to work from INside the house. I figured to build would be best then to rent an office space. I have a 2 year old and the house is quite crowded and did not want to get distracted. So Instead of building a garage with an office on top, We extended the concrete patio in the back of the house and built a 20 x 30 building in which 20 x 20 is garage and 10 x 20 is the office with closet. Another reason we decided on the office not being in a second floor is because if we have elderly people staying with us, they would not have to be going up and down stairs.

So this is the garage so far. It is almost finished already.

I've been painting off and on, it's a lot of work to paint bare sheet rock. But I'm almost done.

Thanks as well man. Any coment or encouragement is always welcomed. It wll help anyone get inspired and or motivated.
Yeah the Barber story is something I will always sherish. I don't think the experience would have been the same without the wreck. I really got to experience a different level of brotherhood. I've said it before and I'll say it again, going there was like going to a family reunion where you meet relatives you never knew, except all have that same motorcycle virus :)
I got to meet some great people and not just meet, but to also talk and share ideas, and not just about bikes. I think there were special connections there as well. I really enjoyed my chat with Rich and Jim this one night after John and Josh and some others finished working on my bike. We stayed up talking till 3am by the fire. I NEVER stay upthat late. LOL
I caught Justin munching almost everytime I saw him. I even think I have a photo of him with his mouth stuffed with food. ;-) I think we hit it off very well.
Another night I got to talk with Tom and many others. Everyday spent with them was special, it really was, all the way till the end. It's just something you gotta experience.

Oh Yeah about the Shorai. I was wondering what the heck you guys were talking about and then I remember the battery. It is working great, the bike has cranked for me everytime wihout losing any power even while it sat for almost a month while I was working on my tank and while my friend Johann was building my 1up seat from the plug I made. I really like the battery a lot. it has 210 cranking amps. It hasn't let me doen and it is sooooo light. and small.

Nice Garage! and the bike looks 1000X better than it did after the barber wreck. I can't wait to sell my house in Moncton so we can buy here, we have 3 houses we like and all have nice garage space. I bet you and you son will crack into his bike as soon as it is finished. Hope to see you again at the next DTT GTG.

Cheers,

Mike
