Hi All...........

Newby to the fourm. Based in Nottingham, UK. Picked up a 1977 CB550F the other day. It was a bit tatty and left me stranded on the M1 and a £210 recovery fee. Not the best start.

I have been taking time off from the wife and kids to work in the garage and have so far done:

Removed and cleaned the carbs, reset float levels. It died on me I think due to being way too lean when opened up. I put this down to no baffles in 4-1 and perished rubbers on intake rubbers from the airbox. Baffles found in a box and put back in. Airbox was in pieces, so it was either buy a new one and the rubbers, or get Pods. K&N pods on it now, so need to mess around with the jets and needle position and take the scorn of those that know better

Wheels have been powder coated black and new bearings in. New Conti Gos to keep me upright

New plugs, points checked, oil changed, battery might need replacing as fully charged shows only 11.3v and is having trouble turning it over.

Clutch cable replaced. The last one was so bad that once removed I couldn't move the cable with my hands.

New Hagon shocks as last ones seemed to be from a CB750 and had cracks around the eye.

Clipons bought and headlight bracket of an old guzzi, but now have the fun of unthreading all the cables from the old bars.

Rebuilt the forks as they had no oil in them

That should put me back on the road, so I can ride it while I get on with phase 2.

Custom exhaust, made by local pipe bender.
Von Zetti seat
Dual disk upgrade for the front
New rearsets
650 Cam
something neat with the rear light

This is the first time with an older bike, all been crotch rockets and knee down on roundabouts before this. Learning alot just playing around with things and reading post after post after post.
